bublr's Issues

Bublr - Development Goals

Hey There ๐Ÿ‘,

This is some of the development goals that we set for Bublr! We're actively developing the site and any help, even if it's a small feedback or PR, can be so helpful!

Here are the Goals:

  • Create a expore feed of sorts, check out this fork for a quick start!
  • Make it more vibrant, a little bit of a aesthetical magic (just like this) (** Really Important**)
  • #68
  • Create a API (Not so much, will be nice doe)
  • Have upovte system that allows users to downvote or upvote posts (similar to the system reddit uses!) (Important)
  • Have a comment system integrated with KWEK :D
  • Make the menus look like (maybe use a command-bar) (Important)

Completed so far:

  • Create a search bar to allow users to search for posts (Important)
  • Have a universal PFP for Anonymous users (Use Dicebear) (Important)

Here are the Issues:

  • Fix the problem w/ some anonymous users not having a randomized PFP. Check this issue

We also realize that the time developers take a lot of their time to work on OS projects without any gain of their own, so we have decided to reward developers who contribute meaningful and influential PR's. Though, since we're only a team of three that are bootstrapped into Bublr, we won't be able to do it immediately but when we reach that height, we will!

*Some of the images or posts you see will refer to the platform as "The Abyss" with an old brain logo which was later changed to "Bublr" with the new coffee logo to reflect more on our identity :D

Important Thread (Please Read!)

Hi!

I am Solomon, the lead developer of Bublr and the only maintainer ๐Ÿ˜… (We do have contributors, for whom I really appreciate, be it the time and effort spent - gotta love them for it! :D) Though, this posts going to be a little different, hopefully not discouraging.

In the past few months, everyone on the team has been actively preparing for our academic test, which is a very important one too! Though, due to the ongoing development of Bublr, it's quite challenging to commit (pun-intended? maybe ๐Ÿ˜) any time to our tests and so until December (or a little later, but do note), any and every PR done to Bublr will be in hold - be it a review or a merge.

I know that this isn't exactly great news, especially for those who are contributing to hacktoberfest and so, every commit until today (Oct 20th) will be reviewed // accepted!

P.S. If you have any Qs, shoot them below, and I will try to answer them! (24~)

A small change

Shalom! @jennifershinshin,

Got a tad bit of a request, if possible, could you change this (When users don't have any posts)-

to this (Even if users have no posts, could you please implement this):

ONLY if it's possible, if not, I understand!

P.S. I tried doing it myself but I quite failed at it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Update tabs to be highlighted when you're on that page and also include all tabs on every page

Hi! I have a suggestion for enhancing the tabs on each page.

I noticed that when you're on a page, like Dashboard or Reading List, you can't really tell that you're on that page.
To solve that problem, I figured we can add "Dashboard" to the tab list when you're on the Dashboard page, and "Reading List" when you're on the reading page, and highlight that tab.

I also noticed that the Reading List page doesn't have the "Contact" button in the tabs. I think as a general rule, we should keep the tabs the same throughout all our pages, so that when you're navigating between pages, it will look nice and seamless.
(Also I know you mentioned you wanted to get rid of the Contact tab, so let me know if you want me to remove it as well)

Let me know your thoughts if we should implement this! I already have it done in my branch so you can see what it looks like yourself.

This is what it will look like:

react-script-tag dependency issues

Hello!
Please delete if this is not applicable.

I found a dependency issue when I first cloned the repo and installed the packages. I got this error
(I used npm instead of yarn for reference...)

npm ERR! code ERESOLVE
npm ERR! ERESOLVE unable to resolve dependency tree
npm ERR!
npm ERR! While resolving: [email protected]

npm ERR! Fix the upstream dependency conflict, or retry
npm ERR! this command with --force or --legacy-peer-deps
npm ERR! to accept an incorrect (and potentially broken) dependency resolution.

I did some research and there seems to be a legacy issue with react-script-tag.
I found this solution to work for me. You have to run these commands in the terminal.

npm config set legacy-peer-deps true
npm i

I got this solution from this StackOverflow issue

Update Readme

Hey would love to contribute and make the readme file look better

Light mode

I was thinking of adding a light mode to the homepage atleast. Can you assign this issue to me?

Highlight color not being reflected on Posts

Hi!

So, recently I rolled out the highlight functionality in beta. Though, it's intended color is a dark-purple (In-editor) -

But it shows as (Published) -

Not sure what's causing it but gotta check ๐Ÿค”

The Abyss - Security Issues

Hey There ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

This is a good place to start if you want to fix or report a vulnerability in the repository. We only have one issue in-terms w/ security -

  • Upgrade Node to 18x while removing every error associated w/ the upgrade.

Anonymous PFP not implemented for previous accounts

Hi!

So, any new anonymous account created after the implementation of the randomized PFP system would have a random PFP but for accounts that were created before the implementation of the system would have nothing.

Account created before the implementation of the system:

Account created after the implementation of the system:

The assumption was that the system will be applied to all accounts, before and after the implementation! But in any case, gotta fix this!

A Rather Cool Design

Worked on this cool design, how do I implement it now - hmm ๐Ÿค”

BTW, the template for this design can be found here and you can view it @ Pixlr
