I expect putting this in a difference package might be a better idea

Map mysql(or another system) virtually between the application and the data.

This will allow for rebuilds to happen with less down time. They system would only need downtime to swap the mapping and finish the last events

e.g.
select * from users becomes select * from $usersTable
