whattimeisitrightmeow's Introduction

What time is it right meow?

You know you want to find out.

Who needs ntp when you have this?

Status

Dead. GitHub started noticeably lagging on the repo page, and even my slowpoke of a VPS started to struggle pushing the changes in less than thirty seconds. A solution is to bump my sleep limit, but more importantly, GitHub itself is mad. It was a good run!

Usage

Fork me, eat me, put me in a tree

Run ./bin/time.sh forever

Watch your own personalized time!

Do I use this?

Hell yes I do, in prod. Someone tell him to merge it already!

Contributing

Only if you really want to.

Historical nonsense

I woke up one morning after seeing the traeish of Bojack Horseman and thought:

"what's the worst possible way I can show time on the internet?"

Behold.

MIT license it is.

whattimeisitrightmeow's Issues

Time quickly becomes stale

When I load the page, the time is correctish. However, if I leave the page open, the time quickly becomes stale. Can a frontend module be introduced that refreshes the page every few seconds so that the time is always correctish?

Timezone

I really like your clock, could you add timezone selection? I am based in Berlin timezone and this is quite confusing.

Occasionally skips a minute

See e7c2da8 for an example where it skipped 1:54
The delay in the update script should be less than one minute to take into account the time it takes to run the other commands.

Implement API

I am currently using
$.get("index.html").children[0].children[0].children[0]
in all of my projects on setInterval, would be nice to see an extensive API for real time.

The hours in time must be separated from the minutes by the colon character (for all non British geo-locations)

To live up to the spirits of ISO 8601 a syntactical-descriptive colons shall be used to separate the numbers indicating hours, minutes, and seconds in such abbreviated measures of time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colon_(punctuation)#Syntactical-descriptive

note:

British English uses a point for this purpose but that is not important right now.

Email when time changes

As a consumer of the fourth dimension, I would like a convenient way to receive updates if the time happens to change. With the current implementation, if I want to know if the time has changed, I need to visit your website. I propose that email functionality be provided. This way, users can be notified immediately when (and if) the time changes.

Is this something on your project roadmap, or is it only planned for a future Enterprise Edition?

Plain-text version

Please provide a plain-text version, I'm not comfortable parsing HTML for production use.
