I'm a supergeek born and raised in Iceland, spent 30 years in Seattle WA, USA, moved back to Iceland in 2021
Been using computers since 1982, worked in IT since 1992, been in cybersecurity since 2017.
More of a script kiddie than a developer. I do OK putting something together in python, PHP or vbScript, that's not overly complex

No validation on fetch

If you try to fetch a key that doesn't exists, you get an uncaught error. Add error handling

Parameterize Vault Table name

Make the Vault database table name an environment variable, instead of hard coded.

Add redis as datastore

Add menu bar

On the main window add menu bar and move the config and database reset there, plus add an exit item.

Add an optional GUI

Learn how to do python GUI by creating an GUI for pivault that you start with a parameter

Update value

remove read only on keys to make updates possible
Warn the user prior to update happens and make them type "yes" to update.

If path doesn't exists SQLite fails to connect

Check to make sure path exists, and create it if it doesn't.

MongoDB as storage option

Explore the possibility to add MongoDB as a storage option.

show vault count

vault count should show when you list the vault as well as everytime you show the menu

Encrypting with PGP

Offer PGP as a configuration option over AES for encryption

Change password function

Need to be able to change the password on all the items, which involves decrypting and recrypting everything

add postgresql as datastore

When adding directly from command prompt add all that was entered

python pivault add key15 just testing this thing
Should create a key called key15 with value of "just testing this thing" not "just"
This means keyvalue = " ".join(sys.argv[3:])

No init on fetch

Fetch should just fetch the requested key and not check the password on the init key.

No login with pwd env variable

Need to ensure login is happening even with pwd env variable

Add full options in interactive mode

When in interactive mode should be able to do "fetch test3" or "add foo bar"

Add MS SQL as datastore

Add MariaDB as datastore

Dynamic configuration screen

Make it so that depending on what store you are selecting in the configuration screen, any variables that aren't applicable to that store are hidden.

Failed to decrypt should show up in the GUI

When using the GUI and not logged in and try to show an item, the error should show in the GUI

Add option to put value on clipboard instead of displaying it

Add SQL lite as datastore

Enforce required environment variables

Ensure required environment variables aren't blank, such as database name, username, etc for SQL database

Config file

Implement a config file as an alternative to env variables. Env variables overwrite conf options.
Add a function that creates a base conf file based on current env variables

Turn SQL handling functions into a class

Then upload to PyPi

Make sure input is sanitized

Test that input is sanitized and queries are parameterized

Change password from parameter does not prompt for old password.

Quiet mode

Add environment variable that when set to true suppresses all non-essential output. Also disables interactive mode, shows help when nothing is provided
