I've learned a lot by looking at other people's code so maybe someone can learn something from looking at mine. = = = = = = = = Itsycal is a tiny calendar for your Mac's menu bar. If you want, it will display your calendar events as a companion to the Mac Calendar app. You can also create and delete (but not edit) events. For more info, see: http://www.mowglii.com/itsycal MIT Licensed - see License file
Provide an option to show current time and allow the user to choose the time format e.g. HH:mm:ss or h:m:s
Allow formatting of date e.g. YYYY-MM-DD or DD-MM-YYYY.
It currently just stays open no matter what. It'd be nice if I clicked anywhere else and it just closed.
Lot of times I personally add an event just to find out later that it's on a differnet calendar of my personal one.
As an alternative to settings, it would be great just to remeber the last selection also.
I like itsycal a lot. Besides Alfred and Bartender it's the only custom app I've installed.
One of the thing that is missing for me is that it doesn't show the location for events.
I use it usually at work and would like to know in which room the next meeting is.
This is exactly what I was looking for but found the UI a bit dated. I've updated it for me locally, do you want a pull request for it ?
Hi,
When I check the memory consumption in the activity monitor, I can observe that Isycal take around 1.9 Gb. There is clearly a memory leak.
What can we do to fix this ?
Thank you very much !
I downloaded latest Itsycal (0.10.14) and installed with the following procedure:
cd /Applications
sudo unzip ~/Downloads/Itsycal.zip
I tried various ways to invoke the application, all fails with the message:
Move Itsycal to the Applications folder
Itsycal must be run from the Applications folder in order to work properly.
Please quit Itsycal, move it to the Applications folder and relaunch.
I tried from Terminal, open /Applications/Itsycal.app
I tried double clicking it from Finder
I tried spotlight search
Date label does not show up in the menu bar. The process is still running though.
If I put an application in fullscreen in an external monitor itsycal will always show in the main screen of the computer. If the application is taken out of fullscreen or moved in the main screen in fullscreen, itsycal shows up in the correct screen.
First, thank you for producing this and releasing the source on Github. Three cheers and a tiger.
Second, the black-outlined menu item is cool and all, but it stands out a bit much. An option to invert it (or, as may be, un-invert it ^^) and scale the font up in the process would not go amiss.
If I click on the icon in the menu bar on an extended monitor (additional screen), the calendar drop down still shows on the main laptop screen.
Add support for multiple screens please.
I'm experiencing a bug where Itsycal loses access to a Google calendar I've selected to be displayed. On a regular basis I look at Itsycal it's just not there anymore - events no longer show up in the list and the calendar is not available in the list of calendars to choose from in the preferences screen.
The calendar is added as an account to the Mac Calendar app and has no problems displaying there.
Restarting Itsycal takes care of the issue every time - the events all show up in the list and the calendar appears as selected in the preferences window.
This is great, any option for a dark skin coming up?
P.S: Command + drag can move any icon in the task bar now, so you can remove that note from the webpage. :)
Hi, I just downloaded it yesterday. Adding events via itsycal is cool! However, I can't see the events added on ltsycal bar. So, I also can't delete an events. I don't know if it is caused by the new macOS Sierra I use. BTW, I have chosen the "Events list show" in preferences. Here is the situation, having events in calendar app but not in itsycal bar
On the 10.13 Beta 1 and Beta 2 the itsycal application would appear in the high energy usage report in the battery menu and activity monitor. I am currently running build 17A291j and the latest itsycal beta for 10.13 posted in the 10.13 compatibility thread. (0.11.3).
When looking at the High Energy details in activity monitor, it says itsycal is using the discrete graphics card, and this is the cause of the high energy usage. The activity monitor does not indicate that high energy graphics cards are required.
There is an option to change first day of week, but there isn't one for changing the weekend days (for highlighting).
Here it's Friday / Saturday (and I assume it's the same for whoever uses Sunday as first day of week, but I might be wrong here)
Thank you very much
Is there a way to disable auto update, or disable auto checking for updates?
If not, could you consider building it in?
Love the app, keep up the good work! thankyou!
Is it just me, or Itsyscal does not remember its position in toolbar in MacOS Sierra after restart?
On MacOS Sierra it is possible to move the itsyscal icon around toolbar alright, but after system restart or itsyscal restart the icon appears as the last one (on the left side).
I have no other mac with Sierra to verify this behavior though. Despite having itsyscal I have also menumeters, google drive and some others.
Would be nice if you can configure a cut-off in which itsycal stops showing today's events, but rather shows tomorrow's events. Useful at night for previewing your calendar for tomorrow.
Also would be nice if there was an option to hide events that have already occurred.
Not sure if you are aware that your app is sold in the AppStore. It's called 'SmalCal' by Damian Plak...
itsycal v0.10.16 in macOS 10.12.1 throws up a dialog about needing to run from /Applications and quits...but it's already in /Applications. I did try to run it once from ~/Downloads, but then moved it and it still refuses to run.
Seems like GPR is interfering, but 0.10.16 is apparently Sierra-ready?
Could you add time in icon instead of system time?
Man, thx for tool it really cool and simple!!!
One question, can it work with week that starts on monday, not Sunday?
Can we add support for showing events from Google Calendar and others?
Apple just released the first beta of macOS 10.13. For the most part, the current version of Itsycal (0.11.2) seems to work, but there are issues. I will be posting a test version with fixes shortly if you are on the new OS and would be willing to test Itsycal.
Love the app, only annoyance, is the week starts on Sunday. Where as in Norway, we use Monday as the first day of the week.
Would be awesome to have an option to choose which day of the week you want to be the first
Would love the option to show a digital clock as part of the menu bar icon. Personally because to get rid of Apple one and consolidate my menu bar.

Hi, thanks for open sourcing this great app!
I just noticed a mixup of todays date display:
While the event list correctly shows today(Heute) as 30.1., the menubar icon and also the calendar view show yesterdays 29.1. as today.
Restarting Itsycal puts everything to normal.
I'm using Itsycal since about 3 months now and always put my mac (OS X El Capitan 10.11.6) to sleep when unused, but today was the first time I noticed this issue.
Hi!
Can you add the ability to show the current time into different time zones? For example here in Argentina we've UTC-3 but Germany uses UTC-1.
Thanks in advance
Normally I use Itsycal to set little events for weeks in advance. The default time is 1 hour, it would be great to configure this for 15 minutes. And alerts for 1 hour before the event.
Dear sfsam,
first of all: awesome App! Exactly what I was searching for, good job!
would it be hard to add a choice to let the week start with monday instead of sunday? That means, in the top row start with M and align the dates accordingly?)
That would be great as it confuses me a lot with Sunday first.
Thanks & best wishes,
3bbing
I have a small feature request:
I'd like itsycal to have an option to display with same look and feel as built-in date/time menu widget, so that they can be put seamlessly next to each other.
So I guess that would mean removing the border and as much of a right margin as possible.
Hi sfsam.
Itsycal is a great app. I'm like it. But it can't show time.
I'm just change menu icon display like calendar icon, date text, day of week and time. It's seens like OS X base information.
It can perfect replace Day-O now.
A handful of users have reported that the menu bar icon is occasionally unresponsive.
These reports have come from both OS X 10.10 and 10.11 systems. Some users seem to reliably see the issue when they restart their machines whereas others see it sporadically after waking their machines or connecting an external monitor.
I cannot replicate this bug on my machines and so am currently in the dark about the cause let alone a solution.
It would be awesome to be able to show multiple months in the popup, not just the one. Sometimes when planning a trip it helps to see two or even three months at the same time. How about an option. The popup could even show a full year if you want, myself I would love 2 months ๐
Trying out the app for the first time and it's awesome! Thanks for making this!
I have a shared network drive added in "Login Items" for my account so it connects on startup every time. Whenever I'm away from home and start up the laptop, it gives me an error message about not being able to connect, which is fine.
The weird thing though is when I try to open Itsycal preferences, it opens it, but that shared drive connect error pops up right away and closes the Preferences window in the process. I had to remove the shared drive from my Login Items in order to access the preferences.
Stock install of the app. Could be something with it scanning the Login Items for "Launch at Login" option?
OS X 10.11.4
Cheers
It would be nice if you could click the Month/Year label, and be presented with a list of months, then click the label again, and be presented with a list of years. Similar to how Windows, or the HTML5 date
input works.
Support for showing top X reminders from a selected list
Support for showing reminders which have bene Scheduled (appear in a meta-list called "Scheduled")
Really enjoying the app. One feature request, I would love to be able to click on an event and see more details about the event (notes, location, invitees, etc). Even if this were to open calendar.app to the event, that would be fine.
