nonprofit-salesforce-how-to-series's Introduction

Nonprofit Salesforce How-To Series

Welcome to the Nonprofit Salesforce How-To Series repository!

Here we will be tracking the work of the Open Source Commons project, which creates short, digestible NPSP How-To videos from NPSP documentation. This project is community led with the help, support, and encouragement of our allies at Salesforce.org. Watch this space for ways you can help!

Volunteer and join the discussion on the Trailblazer Community

NPSP How-To Video Youtube Channel

Starting in 2021, we will begin managing our open projects here in github. Head to the Projects tab to see what's in the works! Please excuse our dust-- volunteers to add to documentation & processes welcome!

Check out our Wiki for instructions, sample scripts, and more!

How You Can Help (At sprints or anytime!)

Write, edit and review scripts

View the scripts in our current backlog here. Note! You don't have to be an expert on the topic to contribute; you will be following documentation. But you probably will be an expert by the time you are done!

Record Narration on Videos

Here are some of the videos that will soon need narration. Anyone with a decent internet connection, a headset with a good mic, and a confortable speaking voice can volunteer. We usually record some scripts at every sprint.

We are very active between sprints!

Review the tasks you can help with above, and here are the projects in progress that need your help!

  • Write and/or finalize the last of the scripts for the Gift Entry feature
  • Have a piece of documentation you wish were more accessible: Make your passion project video happen!
  • Review the existing videos for updates and changes (this is a great project for someone with less time)
  • Put your voice in shining lights! Record narration for existing videos in progress (Headset required)
  • Join our translation team!

Ask Salesforce about Recurring Gifts PDF

Check in with Melissa B on why Recurring Gifts is still in a PDF - is it up to date and any risk of wasting anything if we don’t wait until it’s part of website?

Clarify questions related to translation tasks

@Billflorio Ines and Shun have some questions:

Will it be enough to add translation to the script document? They had some great thoughts related to timing of the subtitles:

"In my understanding, to show translated subtitles on Youtube, we need subtitle files (.srt, .sub, etc.)
So steps will be

    1. Transcribe the video (Again, naming convention for each doc? Maybe we need to rename the folder name?😉)
    1. Translate the google doc transcription
    1. Create the subtitle files based on the translation (We need the timing data to apply the subtitle files, and it’s helpful if the English subtitle timing is available.)
    1. Download the YouTube video to the contributor’s local, apply the subtitle files, and preview the video with the subtitles.
    1. If preview is ok, submit the subtitle file to somewhere, and Youtube account owner apply the subtitle files.
Which are the target of this community activity? If only Step 2, I’m fine with just adding the translation to the bottom of the existing google doc, following the kanban instruction. But I think we need to collaborate to create subtitle that fits to the original video, because it requires grammar and the timing of the translated language."

@barbarachristensen is there a naming convention in the "DONE" scripts folder? Or one we should use going forward?
