Suggestion: Add a couple bonus areas/easter eggs

Unless I did not discover such areas, it seems that the transformation mechanism is only used to progress through the story so far.

It would be nice to add a couple optional areas (doesn't have to be big, just an island with some coins for example) that can be accessed via transformation (e.g. one via flying and one via minimizing) to get some bonus coins, and/or an easter egg (could be a skeleton or a ghost urging you not to battle Satan, or a Godot avatar :P).

Satan can get stuck in the battle area's walls

During the boss fight, Satan might get stuck in the battle area's walls, and his energy balls then explode as soon as he sends them due to the collision with the walls:

In the situation shown above he was able to get unstuck afterwards and come to direct fight, but in a previous playthrough I got him stuck in the top right corner and could kill him easily there.

No music/sfx

Hello, great little game.

There is no sound/sfx. I'm using Debian 9 64 bit.

Font does not distinguish between M and N

The low-res font used is nice overall, but the fact that it uses the same glyph for M and N makes it actually quite hard to read:

For example it's impossible to know how you tester is named from how it's displayed :)

Be more explicit about the licensing

The itch.io page mentions:

In the spirit of the GitHub Game Off Jam, the game and graphical assets are freely available here: https://github.com/securas/goj with a very permissible MIT license. Also, the music and sfx are available under a CC license.

Mentioning only "a CC license" does not mean much, and likely does not fulfill the requirements of said CC license. The license can be CC-BY 3.0, CC-BY-SA 4.0, CC-BY-ND 4.0, CC0, etc.

Based on the exact license flavour, you might have to give attribution to the author (BY), typically done by mentioning their name and linking to the page where they distribute the asset. The version number is also meaningful, as those are legal texts and the versions differ even for a same combination of parameters (BY, SA, NC, ND).

  • For the character sprites by svh440, it seems to be CC-BY-NC judging by https://i.imgur.com/RFKVq.png, though the version is not specified (but that's better than just CC).
  • For the music and sfx, I don't find much on the link you provide to the artist's soundcloud
  • For your own work, it would be nice to specify a name in the copyright statement of the MIT license (after (C) 2017).

Meta: Write README and rename repo?

The README.md is currently quite empty, it would be nice to add a proper description of the game, screenshot/gif and link to the itch.io page.

It might also be worth renaming the GitHub repository (the previous name will stick work as a redirection) to better reflect what it is about? (e.g. daemon-vs-demon or gameoff-2017)

Intro: You can invoke the sword before you're given one

First of all congrats for this game, it's very cool :D

After the first cutscene in hell, you are sent to the graveyard without any weapon, and the story is that you should get slaughtered, back to hell where the imp gives you a sword.

But if you press K while in the graveyard unarmed, you get your sword with a blood splatter animation, so the story no longer works :)

No Godot project file

Love the game and wanted to run it in Godot but it won't open because there's no project file contained in the repo. Could you add it?

Screen size problem.

I have multiple screen 1920x1080 And the result is :

Images are full of the monitor. So 1920 x 1080

Player can respawn off-screen (first zone)

I've seen it happen only at the start of the level after the intro (before the first checkpoint). When you die at this step, the player respawns off-screen, you can see that he's on the top-left of the camera area as the glow is visible (look at the top left corner):

This is beyond the playable area, so you're stuck and need to go back to the main menu. When you hit "Continue", you respawn properly within the graveyard walls.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Start a new game
  • Skip intro
  • Go to the right and let demons kill you
  • You're stuck
