Kubernetes Training and Cookbook

This repository contains instructions and examples for the O'Reilly Live Online Training for Kubernetes. Dates are listed in the O'Reilly Live Online training schedule.

It also contains examples and scripts used in the Kubernetes Cookbook.

Prerequisites

In this training we will use minikube to run a local Kubernetes instance. We will access this local Kubernetes with the client called kubectl.

Install minikube
Install kubectl

Verify your installation:

$ minikube version
minikube version: v0.16.0

$ minikube start

$ kubectl version

If you are impatient, you can now start playing with Kubernetes:

Create a deployment with kubectl run ghost --image=ghost
Do you see a running Pod : kubectl get pods
Check kubectl --help what can you do ?

Instructor

Sebastien Goasguen is a twenty year open source veteran. A member of the Apache Software Foundation, he worked on Apache CloudStack and Libcloud for several years before diving into the container world. He is the founder of Skippbox, a Kubernetes startup that develops open source tools for Kubernetes users. An avid blogger he enjoys spreading the word about new cutting edge technologies and also trains developers and sysadmins on all things Docker and Kubernetes. Sebastien is the author of the O’Reilly Docker Cookbook and 60 Recipes for Apache CloudStack.

post container, like init container

I asked this question on Slack but didn't get a clear answer. I'm looking to run commands after the container starts up. There doesn't seem to be a companion to init containers, only hooks. And even then, I didn't see a HTTP POST hook.
If I were to bring up a database and then create schema or populate with seed data, it'd be very useful to have the ability to run post scripts. Post hooks can run shell scripts but they're clumsy because the script has to be maintained somewhere else, and as I said earlier, I didn't find a way to run HTTP POST commands.

Missing prerequisites

Flash
Subscription to Slack channel

For 1, if you can avoid it, please don't use Flash. My default Chrome browser didn't work, neither did Safari until I enabled Flash for the training. This is 2017, who uses Flash anymore? And none of the flash based controls in the demo were actually used (Q&A etc).

For 2, if you send an email ahead of time with an invitation to the Slack channel, people can subscribe.

Install Minikube in Windows 10 professional

I am using Windows 10 professional,
Downloaded minikube using the steps in the link below
