seattle-boundaries-data's Issues

improve datapackage.json

I've added a datapackage.json file as a step toward better documenting the data in this repo.

It would be useful to review the Data Packages spec and make sure the datapackages.json file has everything in it that it ought to.

The current datapackage.json file is the result of running dpm init.

It chooses ODC-PDDL-1.0 as the default license. I'm not familiar with it, so that should be reviewed as well.

clean up and reorganize

  • move all data into the data directory
  • make sure all data files use the same suffix. all should use geojson
  • update readme to have current list of data

TopoJSON

@sethvincent I have been thinking about adding TopoJSON files in here. Arguably they can pretty trivially be derived from the GeoJSON. We could even add in an npm script or some Gulp code to bang them out. But then one could also look at the GeoJSON as being derived from shapefiles.

There is the argument that this whole repo is one of convenience so giving folks the TopoJSON pre-generated would be more convenient. Your thoughts?

(I ask now as I have recently gotten Census Block Group and Census Block shapefiles from the City and am planning on adding them this week.)

moving repo

I'm working on some improvements to https://boundaries.seattle.io and will be making improvements to this repo as well.

I decided it would be useful to move this repo to the seattleio org.

It won't change anything about how contributions are made.

But it will help to simplify documentation and make it simpler for me to do maintenance.

The new url for this repo will be github.com/seattleio/seattle-boundaries-data.

Add ISP service area maps

Maps of the various ISPs and where they are available seems really useful. That could be used in a Leaflet-based visualization. Each ISP would be a separate layer. Folks could easily see which providers are in their area.

Such maps would also be useful in the SeaNetMap project.

Improve source documentation

Each dataset should have a readme (or description somewhere that's easy to find) with this info:

  • source url
  • publisher of dataset
  • description of changes
  • link to script for reproducing the geojson
  • any relevant license information

Update Zoning for 2019 MHA

Thanks for the work on this repo.

I'm wondering if there is any way to add get the updated MHA zoning data (http://seattlecitygis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=b0167cf4e63149e3b891307a41a639e5) added to this repo (or if there are some docs/process to follow for how this information can be collected to make a PR). I'm not seeing this data available at https://data.seattle.gov/

I'm curious where the existing zoning.geojson originated and if it is possible to get the zoning here updated for the 2019 MHA zoning changes.

Wire up gh-pages branch

For the GitHub Pages site, this would be a simple leaflet deploy with a checkboxed layer switcher which would let folks see any combination of the various boundaries.

A goal is to have this branch be, hopefully completely, the same code that would run if someone were to clone the repo and runs the static code locally. This is simply a reminder to get the data experience-able at http://codeforseattle.github.io/seattle-boundaries
