gigabyte-z590i-vision-d-11900k's Introduction

Gigabyte-Z590i-Vision-D-11900k

Within this repository I share my Hackintosh EFI for my newest build based on Intels Rocketlake 11th Gen CPU.

Z590i and 11900k running macOS Ventura

Hardware used in this build:

  • CPU: Intel i9-11900k
  • Board: Gigabyte Z590i Vision D:
    • Audio: Realtek ALC4080
    • 1x 2.5GBase-T (Intel I225-V)
    • 1x USB-C
    • 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports (Intel JHL8540 Maple Ridge)
    • 2x m.2 Slots
  • RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z 3600Mhz CL18
  • AMD 6900XTXH (MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT Gaming Z)
  • Wifi/BT: Intel AX201, replaced by a Broadcom BCM94360NG for macOS Compatibilty. Works out of the box. The BCM94360NG fits into the original WiFi-card housing and sits under the IO-shield. Original antennas fit.
  • SSDs: 1x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro OEM (PM9A1) for Windows 10 (sits in the m.2 below the CPU) 1x 1TB Samsung 960 EVO for macOS (sits on the back of the board)
  • Case: NCASE M1 v6.1

What is working:

  • SMBIOS MacPro7,1 with full h264/h265 hardware encoding
  • Audio: working out of the box as it is connected like a USB-Audio interface. But keep in mind it only shows up, when you plugin something (e.g. headphones).
  • Thunderbolt 4 (incl. Hotplug, tested with Monterey 12.5 and Ventura Beta 5)
  • Replacing the internal m.2 Intel Wifi with a BCM94360NG to have macOS native Wifi/BT Support
  • USB-ports. Have created my custom USB port mapping with USBMap.command

What is not working:

  • iGPU, the 11th Gen iGPU is not supported by macOS

Wifi in macOS Sonoma

With macOS Sonoma, the Broadcom based Wifi cards don't work plug and play anymore. It is a very annoying process now, that you have to repeat after every macOS Update!

General Requirements for Broadcom Wifi in Sonoma:

  • Additional Kexts: IO80211FamilyLegacy.kext, IOSkywalkFamily.kext, AMFIPass.kext. Also these Kexts in a very high priority after Lilu and VirtualSMC.
  • Blocking Kexts: com.apple.iokit.IOSkywalkFamily
  • Bootarg: -amfipassbeta
  • NVRAM: csr-active-config=<03080000>

To be repeated for every macOS Update:

  1. Disable SecureBoot via config.plist: SecureBootModel = Disabled and DmgLoading = Any
  2. Disable SecureBoot in BIOS
  3. Install the macOS Update
  4. Run the OCLP Patcher and start the "Post-install Root Patch".
  5. Enable SecureBoot via config.plist: SecureBootModel = (your SecureBootModel according to here: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Post-Install/universal/security/applesecureboot.html#securebootmodel) and DmgLoading = Any
  6. Enable SecureBoot in BIOS again

Boot loading stuck at IOConsoleUsers using iGPU

Hey, thanks for posting your guide.

  1. I tried following it and I am getting the following error after which I am stuck:
    IOConsoleUsers: gIOSScreenLockState 3, hs 0, bs0, now 0, sm 0x0

IMAGE 2021-04-11 22:14:56
How do I solve it?

  1. Also do you know if it is possible to change the Initial Display Output(Gigabyte) to iGPU?

Here's my HW list:

|[CPU][Intel Core i9-10850K 3.6 GHz 10-Core Processor]
|[Motherboard][Gigabyte Z590 VISION D ATX LGA1200 Motherboard]
|[Memory][G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL17 Memory]
|[Storage][Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive]
|[Storage][Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive]
|[Video Card][Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 10 GB GAMING OC Video Card]

I am running -wegnoegpu in the boot-arg

and relying on an iGPU which is enabled in the BIOS.

Important issue with audio

Hi,

Sorry to disturb again, but I'm having major problems with the audio because suddenly the audio locks up looping for two seconds, but it happens all the time. I have checked the memory and the CPU and when it happens I see that there is an increase in the CPU load. Any ideas?

My specs are:

  • Z590 Vision D motherboard
  • i9 11900K
  • 32GB corsair LPX DDR4 3200 RAM
  • Gigabyte RX580 8GB

Please check the specs for me :-D

I'm building a new computer.
by specs similar to yours
Please check the specs for me.

CPU: I9-10900k gen10th
MB : Z590i Vision D
GPU: Radeon VII
SSD : SN850 2tb x 2
RAM: 64gb Corsair LPX 3200MHz
CPU SINK : NH-L12 GHOST S1 EDITION (CPU)
Case : GHOST S1 mk iii

I'm worried about CPU gen10, do you think it is compatible?
And should I modify anything? Thanks for the answer in advance.

F8g bios update, improved Thunderbolt compatibility?

Hi,

Not so much an issue, but I wanted to document some of my experiences using this EFI.

Has anyone experimented with the latest bios update from Gigabyte and whether TB is improved?

The documentation for the update lists TB compatibility as one of the fixes:
1. Checksum : 17D9
2. Improve the compatibility of non-K CPU with CXMT / Unic memory
3. Improve Thunderbolt compatibility issues

I have the ATX variant of this motherboard, this update was listed as F8f for this board, but is equivalent to the Z590i F8g.
I updated to F8f from F8b and it looks like TB has markedly improved in Windows.

I have a Razer Core X with an RX 590 connected via Thunderbolt (Similar to your previous setup @SchmockLord) and an internal RTX 3080, which is disabled via an SSDT.

Now for the snags, I updated my OC to 0.9.0 along with the necessary kexts, upon successful boot I updated MacOS to 13.2.1 using system preferences (OTA) which resulted in instant KP on boot. I gave your newest OC 0.8.8 a shot, it booted fine after removing SSDT-DTPG.aml + SSDT-MAPLE-RIDGE-RP05-V2.aml otherwise I'd have a black screen after the apple logo (I'm assuming it wasn't detecting my eGPU). I also removed the USB map SSDT and used my own that I generated from USBToolBox and booted into 0.9.0 successfully.

Do you think this is potentially another issue with the BIOS and Thunderbolt? It would be interesting to see if anyone would be brave enough to update to F8g and see if they have similar behaviours to me.

Another strange behaviour is when the boot sequence is complete – I switch my output on my monitor to display my RX 590 – it stays on the apple logo for ~2 minutes before getting to the login screen, even if I have verbose enabled, it just sits on the apple logo, before these updates it would boot instantly. I have SetApfsTrimTimout = 0, so it's not that, I was just curious if anyone else was seeing a similar issue on OC 0.9.0/13.2.1/F8g≡F8f?

Also, I wanted to thank you for your transparency and updates to this EFI, it's helped countless times when I've ran into issues with my machine. 🙌

Edit for spec list:
Gigabyte Z590 Vision D
Intel i9 11900K
4x16GB DDR4 3600MHz Crucial Ballistix
Sapphire RX 590 8GB (eGPU connected via TB)
RTX 3080 FE (Internal, disabled via SSDT)
Broadcom BCM94360NG (VT-d enabled, Wi-Fi working correctly with SSDT-DMAR table delete)

Mic input is very low

Mic input is very low when connected to back panel of MB(well it's the only option with this MB).
Also there are 2 usb input devices in Sound settings and only one of them is actually working. In Audio Midi Setup app, both devices have 2 ins and max db is 12 which is strange.
Does it have something to do with USB mapping?

My specs:
MB: Gigabyte Z590i Vision D
CPU: i5 10400f
GPU: RX 6600 XT
RAM: 2x8 CL18 3600 Mhz(no issues at all running at 3600 Mhz)

No Bluetooth Working

Hi there. Using same config as you, BCM94360NG included (except for the GPU, i'm using an internal RX6800XT).
After applying 0.7.2 config there's no bluetooth working but only wifi.

Tried to understand why searching in the config.plist but nothing.
Any ideas?

REBOOT AFTER SECOND SLEEP/WAKEUP!

Big thanks SchmockLord for GREAT CONFIG!

Somebody have the same issue ???

All working perfect excepting little thing.... after second sleep/wakeup i got reboot

interesting that by 1st sleep/wakeup power led is off, by second sleep all coolers are off but power led is on and if i press any key hack reboot.

Radeon Pro W5500 Via Thunderbolt

Hello SchmockLord, Just a quick question regarding GPU connectivity. The only GPU you use now is EXTERNAL ? How good this actually work ? Are you able to get proper boot screen image when you have W5500 connected via Thunderbolt ? Does The Boot Picker works normally and are you able to boot Windows 10 with no problems with this external GPU Setup ? I am asking because I need the single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot of this board for a RAID NVME Card and wanna confirm if there are any issues before I proceed with this setup ! Thank you !

Various Oddities: WiFi failures, App GPU failures

Hiya,

first of all, thanks a lot for this guide! My build would not have been possible without it.

Since I still had to do quite a lot of digging (yours didn't work out of the box for me, who knows why), I set up a similar guide for my current setup: https://github.com/Ivorforce/Hackintosh-Z590i-Vision-D-11700k-RX-6600-XT

I noticed a few problems so far that I don't currently have a fix for:

  • Steam blackscreens on login
  • Native Access crashes with GPU failures (Electron Based, though I found no other app that does this so far)
  • WiFi sometimes doesn't launch properly, requiring a restart
  • Bluetooth continuity features work only partially

If you, or anyone else, found a fix for any of those, I'd greatly appreciate them. Or, at least, please chime in you're getting them too so I know I'm not crazy.

Cheers

Failure to boot with RX 6600 - user error or incompatible GPU

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to raise this problem.
I'm checking to see if this is user error or have a bought the wrong GPU.
I have had the OC 0.8.3 Preview for macOS Ventura Beta 3 working successfully on my Z590i VisionD, RX570 32GB for both 12.5 and Ventura Beta3 and maybe 4. With no changes to the config.plist, drivers or kexts.
Today I bought and attempted to use a new GPU Saphire Pulse RX 6600, instead of very reliable RX 570 and have not managed to get the system to boot.
I removed the SSDT-BR0-6900XT.aml - no luck kernal panic, see image
I attempted to revert to 0.7.8 with latest Lilu and Whatevergreen - the boot managed to go somewhat further but got stuck in a boot loop, after trying to load the OS for 20 seconds or so.
Booting into W10, everything works fine.
No changes to BIOS from RX570 to RX660
Open to suggestions or ideas to resolve. It might be something minor I've overlooked.
Thanks

SMCSuperIO cant' unload

Hi,

I am using Z590, i9 11900K, and 5700XT graphs card. I am using the v4 release EFI as is and running into this issue (SMCSuperIO cant' unload).

CFG Lock is disabled in BIOS

The system keeps running into this error message

Z590i On-Board Graphics (No DP or HDMI Output)

Hi SchmockLord,

I just checked the official specs of Z590i Vision D and noticed that there is only ONE DP INPUT ? I assume this is for Daisy-chaining a lot of Thunderbolt Monitors via GPU Output Ports. But is there really NO WAY to use the On-Board Graphics (on Windows for now as there is still no support for this iGPU on macOS) on this MoBo ? I always assumed that every MoBo has at least 1 Output !

Asus Z590 Maximus XIII Extreme states that 11th Gen CPU can do it... Any chance the 4K@60hz is motherboard specific ?

USB Big Sur 11.5.2

First of all, allow me to thank you for your amazing work on this set of texts it has allowed me to finally use my machine as a mac with my 6800XT and allow me to run my business properly, i am an X Plane 11 Airport developer so thank you so much for all the work you do, now ,i am using your most recent release but i have noticed that half the USB ports are not working on 11.5.2 the USB 2 ports don't work, with anything plugged into them which is a real shame, is there any chance you have developed a fix at all ?

thanks so much for your work once again i cant stress this enough

Any progress on the iGPU?

Hi thanks for this great repo. Any progress on the iGPU yet? If Apple does not issue mac pros with intel chips anymore, what can be done to make Iris Xe supported?

Hi, didn't u use CPUID Emulation to get it work?

Planning to do a sililar build, but I read from dortania's guide that 11th gen CPUs require a CPUID spoof of 10th gen in order to work properly. But I saw from your configt.plist that you didn't use any CPUID emulation, so I just want to ask if it's running alright? Thanks.

Get stuck when changing from iMacPro1,1 to iMac20,2

I have almost the same configurations except that I used internal AMD display card. Everything works fine when using the provided EFI. But when I attempted to change the SMBIOS to iMac20,2, the system stopped at the log-in page with mouse and keyboard all frozen up. Any idea, please.

Immediate wake up

Do you experience the same?

My hack won't go to sleep and will wake up immediately.

I have the USB ports properly mapped with a Kext as mentioned in #20, the system is a new install of macOS 12 (21A5543b).

Slow boot and no USB ports

I am setting up a Hackintosh using the Z590i Vision D and i9 11900 (non-K). I have previously run the same build with a Z390i Aorus Pro / 8700 with no problems. Current build is:

Gigabyte Z590i Vision D (Z5 bios, I've also tried Z6).
Intel i9 11900
Samsung 970 Evo Pro
32MB DDR4
AMD RX580
macOS Monterey 12.0.1

I have based my EFI on the one from this repo. However I am having a terrible time getting things running.

  1. Early boot is really slow. Takes 2 or 3 minutes and frequently pauses.
  2. Once booted no USB ports are mapped (even though I have USBInjectAll and the ACPI port map enabled). I have also tried a USBMap.kext from here, but still no joy.
  3. Even when the system does boot it seems really unstable and will often kernel panic shortly after boot.

Bios:
XMP: Profile 1
Legacy USB: Disabled
iGPU: Disabled (for Rocket Lake).

My EFI is attached. Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome :-) I seem to have tried every available option and nothing seems to work.

Question: Works with different CPU?

Hi,

I am new to Github. I recently bought this motherboard. And I want to keep it a bit on a budget. Does this awesome work works with a 10th generation CPU with integrated iGPU and no dGPU?
Would love to hear from you!

Sound via SPDIF

I use a Gigabyte Z590 Vision D (ATX) Board and have used your EFI for example..

After USB mapping my sound card works and found any devices after I have plugged in.

If I play more than 30 minutes sound on my soundar via optical cable it goes into a sound bug. (YouTube, Apple Music) After switching the sound device in Mac OS to headphones and directly back to optical output the sound works great for the next 30 minutes.

Please can anyone check if you have the same issue by using optical cable?

Thunderbolt is working only when devices is plugged in before booting up

I have the same motherboard, same replace wifi/bt card, and an AMD 6900XT display card. I copied the latest EFI built and followed exactly all the set up (bios) as listed in your post. I can only get TB4 working when the device (an NVME drive) is plugged in the TB4 port before the system was started up. Hotplug was not supported. THe device was not detected during a warm boot. My NVME showed up as hightlighted under the PCI tab in system info. Any enlightenment ?
IMG_1057

TB4 and GPU/HOT Plug

Just as a heads up, I have this working (not fully hot plug).

If you take a DisplayPort Out from the GPU and plug it into the Motherboard DisplayPort as an Input, the TB4 Port directly next to the Motherboard DisplayPort becomes Video out and works as a hotplug. I modified my settings on the Bios to support GPIO-Pwr and delay set to 20ms.

I have a monitor that has USB ports on this, and they work over the thunderbolt connection to the Motherboard.

Z590 Vision D with 11700k - Network issues?

Hi,

I have installed last night a hackintosh with the ATX version and a 11700k. From both manuals (Z590i and Z590) the block diagram seems to be reasonable identical so I tried my luck.

The installation was successful even using the Samsung 980 PRO as an internal disk.

The network port is detected and DHCP is able set a correct lease for it. But I'm not able to reach any ip address except the local one.

Do you have any idea what is missing?

StartupDisk option not being applied

Hey, I previously was using your z490 Vision D build and recently built one based off of this Z590i. Thank you so much for making this available! It's been a huge help. Both systems are working great!

It's a small issue.
I dual boot Windows and MacOS Ventura. On my previous Z490 build, I was able to just select the Startup Disk in MacOS settings, and that would force the picker to default to boot into MacOS. With the z590i config, the startup disk selection doesn't 'stick'. I can select it, and restart but it doesn't apply properly. Any suggestions or tips for where I should look to fix this?

Thanks again.

Monteray Bluetooth

Just to let everyone know that Monterey Installs perfectly fine, USB appear to be OK , but have lost Bluetooth Functionality on default board now. no extra wifi card.

WIFI Location

Hi there, any chance you could show the location of the WIFI Board to be replaced as i couldn't figure out exactly where the card is ? maybe upload a few photos if you have the time, once again thanks for all the work you do.

Cannot install Monterey in a z590 Vision D with a 11900K

Hi!
My name is Fernando and I have a Gigabyte z590 Vision D with a 11900K, but I can't install Monterey. When I changed my BIOS parameters (F8b BIOS version), I reboot, and then I choose the USB with your EFI. After some seconds, the screen change with an image of a mouse and then with a keyboard showing how to turn on, but my mouse and keyboard are connected by USB and don't work, also the keyboard don't turn on any LED.

Any idea of what happens with the USBs?

Thanks in advanced

TB4 5K monitor support

Hi @SchmockLord,
I am trying to switch my 5800x build to intel, and found this MB is the best one for me(D4 and TB4), I have a LG 5K monitor, but
from the official guide, it seems it only support 5K output by iGPU, if using my 5500xt with the dp in port, it only support 4K output, but not sure my understanding is correct.

have you got chance test it if the TB4 can output 5K?

Current USB map breaks all mapping

Big Sur 11.6.1 (20G211) with the OC 0.7.3 release.

I had to disable the USB map SSDT in order for any of my non-front panel USB ports to work. I tried multiple SMBIOS with no luck. Not sure if this is widespread or just me.

I tried running USBMap.command to see if any ports were recognized and they were not. I have yet to map the ports myself and compare with the SSDT provided.

Ethernet is not working

I added LucyRTL8125Ethernet and I'm getting:
OC: Prelinked injection LucyRTL8125Ethernet.kext (LucyRTL8125Ethernet.kext) - Success

But inside the installer there is no en0 device, no Internet, any ideas?

Also, I'm from Linux, how I can get the correct pci path and values to be added to deviceProperties?

OCB: LoadImage failed - Unsupported

Trying your EFI and I'm getting the following error:

BS: Unsupported bootstrap protocol 7 vs 6
OCB: LoadImage failed - Unsupported

All I did swapped motherboard and process to Z590 and 11700k. Any ideas why this is happening? Thank!

Thunderbolt/USB 4

Hello, I'm a new hackintosher and trying to set up this built everything is working well but Thunderbolt. From the posted images I could understand the thunderbolt line is seen by my system only as USB 4. In the system information it is detected but with the driver not installed. In IoReg it is not even detected, could someone help me?

  • Full Duplex with Flow Control and energy-efficient-ethernet

Anything not Full Duplex on the i225-v(3) for this motherboard seems to show interface enabled, but no actual network connectivity beyond IP address. I also added boot args dk.e1000=0, not sure if this helps though.

Broadcom BCM94360NG - no wifi on Windows 10

As the title says - can't get wifi on Windows 10 with the broadcom network adapter switched over on the motherboard.

My setup is pretty similar to Schmucklord's:
z590i vision d
i7 11700k
radeon rx 6800 xt
network adapter swopped over to broadcom.

I haven't gotten around to intalling mac yet - my first step was to physically swop the network card and while successful with getting bluetooth to work using Fenvi-downloaded drivers, I can't get wifi to work on Windows 10.

Has anyone had any luck and could assist please?
