Go is reliable and fast with a small language footprint. It is very very boring and most programmers can be reasonably proficient with it in a short span of time, especially if they've previously worked with other small, boring languages like C.

For that proper 2009 feeling, please rewrite in a language that's only just been released and mixes a grab-bag of concepts from various domains - enough so that it's nearly impossible for anybody to really understand the language's pitfalls without years of pain, which (it being 2009) nobody will have yet. I suggest Rust, Elm, Elixir, Scala or JS using Babel with all the Stage-0 proposals enabled.
