About The Project: Rockie - Riprap Analysis Tool

Within the construction business, riprap is a commonly used material for erosion control. It is a layer of large stones that are placed along the banks of rivers, streams, and other waterways to prevent erosion. The size and shape of the stones are important to the effectiveness of the riprap. The stones must be large enough to resist being washed away by the water, but not so large that they are difficult to handle and place. The stones must also be of a shape that will interlock with the other stones in the riprap to form a stable layer. The stones are typically placed in a layer that is 1 to 2 feet thick. The stones are placed by hand or by using heavy equipment such as a backhoe or a front-end loader.
