This is my public homework repository for Stats-545 (Exploratoy data analysis) and Stats-547 (Information Visualization), the two R-oriented stats classes at University of British Columbia. I duplicated the original private course repository so that I can make it public, since the two classes have finished.

• HW7: file and data wrangling and manipulation to a crazy extent, sometimes with a bunch of ddply and its family members

• HW8: cleaning a dirty version of gapminder data and regular expression

• HW9: on making a data analysis pipeline by using a MakeFile in R studio. Data analysis was performed on [lord of the ring data] (https://gist.githubusercontent.com/sjackman/c10a5f7bcf6eebc1ba14/raw/b033c038605f9fdac855479714f65703be565b81/lotr_raw.tsv), a big file recording number of spoken words by different main characters, their races, chapters, and films.

##About origami I like origami so much that I goes to the OrigamiUSA convention in New York City every year. Click here to see amazing pictures and story of my adventure in the origami convention. You'll never think of it the same way again!

##About being in Bioinformatics I did my undergrad at McGill and was studying Anatomy and Cell Biology. Originally I was planning on becoming a doctor, but I then I realized life was bigger than memorizing protein names and body parts... Luckily I was doing a comp sci minor as well so that helped me discover what I really like is exploring things on my own and build cool things.

So far I really like the fact that here in UBC I'm getting paid to learn whatever I want. I enjoy dedicating full time in simpy just learn. Learning this programming language, trying this code, reading up on things, etc.

Bioinformatics would allow me to combine the knowledge of biology and comp sci together. I'm super interested in becoming better at data analysis. Can't wait to see what I can accomplish in these two years!

##GitHub I actually have GitHub for a while but never really learned how to use it until recently. Luckly for STATS545 I have to use it so I did! The fastest way to learn is really by doing and learning from trials and errors. Things I learned:

1. You have to save and commit before you can push (duh)
2. sometimes Github doesn't render as well as R studio or on other platform
3. Github has so much to offer and we need to discover that (gotta pay more attention in class now, Santina!)
