Encapsulate Polling code into Object
Maybe some sort of "PollingManager" or something that encapsulates the setting up of the periodic poller and coordinates the interaction between the AJAX request and the tweet display.
Might be worth looking into using an MVC here or at least using their interfaces as an example.
