byob's Introduction

Adam Yarris

Website | YouTube | Resume | LinkedIn

My name is Adam Yarris, a third year Computer Science major at RIT. I've devoted too much of my life to programming, doing my best to learn along the way. My stuff is usually stupid or useless, sometimes a healthy mix of both.

I am currently the internal developer at WITR.

byob's Issues

Matrix builds may fail updating badges

See this job: https://github.com/Mulugruntz/celery-pubsub/actions/runs/4167158182/jobs/7212395387#step:5:258

To https://github.com/Mulugruntz/celery-pubsub.git
! [remote rejected] HEAD -> shields (cannot lock ref 'refs/heads/shields': is at 0564340ab257b3da2019922adf94804da00ef1a7 but expected 4daa6ffb078a9a62aa23ca21a6babff2e9f0f4f1)
error: failed to push some refs to '***github.com/Mulugruntz/celery-pubsub.git'

This is because I have a bunch of jobs in a matrix and by the time a job starts then end, another one may have also ended and pushed in the meantime.
This is quite a sneaky one, and could easily be missed.

Moreover, as it shows on the next line:

Docker Action run completed with exit code 0

it might be complicated to detect and restart (not that it would be a super clean solution...).

boyb.yarr.is down

My badges were not appearing, so I tried following their links, and got a error message for byob.yarr.is.

Error page is displayed below:

Batch Commit

Ideally it would be nice if there was a way to batch the commits all into one, as currently each new badge adds a new commit and makes the github insights a little skewed, alongside over-bloating the shields branch for no effective reason

Invalid url should give 404

This is my shields.json:
https://github.com/Mulugruntz/celery-pubsub/blob/shields/shields.json

If I go to this invalid URL:
https://byob.yarr.is/mulugruntz/celery-pubsub/m_linux_3.8_celery345: invalid

And now, to this valid URL:
https://byob.yarr.is/mulugruntz/celery-pubsub/m_linux_3.8_celery3: valid

Both return an HTTP status 200. If would be great to actually return 404 to avoid parsing the SVG.
In my use case, I made a sparse matrix, so some of them should have badges and some should not.

How to make it work on private repositories?

Hello,

Thanks for this amazing app.

When using it on private repositories, the badges do not appear. What shall I do so that the badges also work on private repositories?

Thank you

Publish wildcard versions

Please publish wildcard version matches for latest versions in that branch.
E.g. it is very common in actions to match the latest v1 when using @v1 vs. having having to specify v1.3.0.

Btw, the documentation refers to v1.3.0, while the Marketplace says the latest version is v1.2.1.

Caching is sometimes failing

As mentioned in #8 , there seems to be some issues related to caching.
I'm guessing this is caching, because when going directly to the link and refreshing the page, it seems to "sometimes" resolves the issue.

But maybe it's different.

An example here:

use icons from badgen

Hi,
I'm trying to use badges for BYOB.
Is there a way to use the icon option from badgen website ?

Emoji icon?

Awesome repo - would be great if you could do something like:

icon: 🤨

Since that'd enable a bunch of meaningful visuals without having to create svgs.
