Releases

Releases prior to version 1.7.5 were released under a closed-source license and can be downloaded from https://releases.formreturn.com/. If you purchased a license and require a license key to unlock older versions, download the license generator from https://github.com/rquast/formreturn-license. From 1.7.5 onward, open source contributions can be made by creating a pull request. Contribution guidelines will be drafted shortly.

Code Signing Issues

Open source releases are not codesigned.

If you're using a Mac, you will need to download, extract and right-click the application file and select "open" to run. This will bypass gatekeeper.

If you're using Windows, you will get a message saying that the software is from an unknown publisher.

Tutorials

Tutorials for using FormReturn can be found at http://content.formreturn.com/

Building & Developing

FormReturn currently requires OpenJDK 8 and Maven to compile and run.

Requirements

NSIS is required for buiding and packaging the windows binaries and installer. Install NSIS (ubuntu example below):

apt install nsis

Setting Java 1.8 on Mac

To switch to Java 1.8, execute the following command in a terminal:

export JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.8`

Maven repository

Some FormReturn dependencies are no longer hosted by the maven central repository, and are configured to be obtained from http://maven.formreturn.com/

Building & Packaging

To build, from the root of the project, run:

mvn clean install

This will build the formreturn library that is then installed in your local maven repository.

To create a package distribution, from the "installer" directory, run:

mvn clean package

In the "installer/target" directory, this will create a Mac "app", a windows exe installer and a Linux jar installer.

formreturn's Issues

Server window lacks 2 tabs: Form Processor and Task Scheduler

Hi Roland, Pedro here! If you read this, I hope you can help!

The older version of Formreturn, which I have on an old hd, has 3 tabs in the server window:

Database, Form Processor and Task Scheduler.

This new version only has Database in the server window.

I don't know where to put my incoming pdfs, where the processed pdfs will go or how often the server checks for incoming.

Is there some config file I can write to??

I always used to set up 2 folders for incoming and processed pdfs: pdf_IN and pdf_Out and set polling to every 30 seconds.

Can anyone please help this non computer person?

Display issues on MacOS 13.2 (and earlier)

On MacOS 13.2 Formreturn runs, does its job, but there are several display issues and the most annoying one is that I have to wait several minutes every time I switch from Form Pages or Publications to Forms in Captured Data. This list is very, very slow to open. Other quirks:

  • Upload folder in Processing Queue pulls up a FR dialog that doesn't want to show my documents folder (empty when I click on it). Upload image uses a system dialog and this works fine.
  • Black bars at various places throughout the program interface. Mostly the top of columns, obscuring the headers. The visual interface for the software is not properly displayed somehow.

I have used FR for several years now and these issues cropped up after switching to 1.7.5. The last paid version that I used was better at displaying the visual interface but the slowness in updating the Forms list was also present in that version and may be related to something in the background. I cannot remember but I think it wasn't there on my previous, Intel, MacBook but started when I switched to a M1pro MacBook. I cannot remember if I also switched versions during that move...
It looks like this:

The thin lines used in tables and around checkboxes also get very indistinct.

Timeout trying to Creat PDF Page

Hello everyone. I'm having some problems trying to create 13k+ pdf files from the same table. I mean, everytime its finish, the final file just doesnt save. Looks like it corrupts while the creation process. I have no problem with 7k rows tables, but 13k i'm facing this problem.
Is there any 'timeout' or processing time that can i change to made possible the processing with no problems? The only solution i see is create to tables from the actually with 13k rows (6.5k in one + 6.5k) on the another

problems installing and running formreturn in Windows10 Domain environment

we cant get this software to run under any other user than the installation user.

please can you clarify if the installation folder needs full control access for all authenticated users?
