Is it necessary to add an additional 0x00 to create a space between any two characters? In such a case the bit patterns of the columns will then be 0x49, 0x49, 0x7F, 0x00
I would say so, yes.
It would be good/useful if you were prepared to share your font creation by submitting a PR for inclusion in this library.

Is it ok if I use the same bit patterns for both Uppercase & Lowercase alphabets?
Since the font which I am referring to does not support lowercase alphabets. This will make it easier for the user since they can type their strings in either Uppercase or Lowercase.

Awesome.
Duplicating the upper case letters for the corresponding lower case letters is probably the simplest thing to do if they don't already exist.
