There are some variables which don't have any logic.

For example: why do I have to write var(--black) if writing black I have the same result?

I think we need prefix to make difference between crayon's names and reals css's names.
For example in stylus : $red #ee204d and red #ff0000.
Don't you think ?

I forked and made some modifications, if you care to take a look. https://github.com/sillero/crayon

Basically:

• color- prefix to avoid problems with variable names in a project
• template based generation for all stylesheets
• color sorting, to more easily select a color

PostCSS is not about writing CSS4 code. Many PostCSS users didn’t use cssnext.

This is why PostCSS plugins should not provide mixins or variables.

The correct PostCSS way is a PostCSS plugin, which will replace antiquebrass right in CSS to #cd9575. This plugin will be very easy:
