Aaanimal

Aaanimal is a Python extension module for generating friendly, mostly unique names. The name is a play on GfyCat's AdjectiveAdjectiveAnimal URLs. It is written in Rust using PyO3.

Usage

Aaanimal only has one function. Use it wisely.

import aaanimal
aaanimal.generate()  # 'crushable-badtempered-raptors'
aaanimal.generate(adjectives=1, animals=1, separator=" ✨ ")  # 'nautical ✨ aphid'

Installation

The module is distributed to PyPI.

pip install aaanimal

You shouldn't need a Rust compiler unless you want to build from source.

Platform Support

There is currently only support for Linux, but the plan is to support Windows (and possibly FreeBSD) as well. If you'd like to help make either a reality, please consider contributing.

Run tests in GitHub Actions

Tests should automatically be run in GitHub Actions before release and on PR submission.

Automatically publish new releases to PyPI

New releases should be published to PyPI when version tags are created (e.g. v1.0.0, v1.0.1, etc.).

Add Windows support

Windows should be among the supported platforms. Can we cross-compile a wheel before release?

Build documentation with GitHub Actions

Documentation should be automatically built for new releases using GitHub Actions. This should probably be published to GitHub Pages. It might be worthwhile to look into verdoc for this.

Build a manylinux wheel

The package should be built as a manylinux wheel rather than an sdist so that users don't need a Rust compiler.

Add FreeBSD support

FreeBSD should be among the supported platforms. Can we cross-compile a wheel before release?
