Are there any updates on this? Previously wasn't having this issue but with an update to arcgisbinding and/or the update to ArcGIS Pro 3.1 I can read .gdb files but all SDEs fail with the same error as @gis-parks-swiss. Now that I think about it, it probably started around the same time this issue was opened.
I'm currently using R 4.3.2 via RStudio, but have tested in R 3.9.x through all intermediate versions (via both RStudio and RGui) and haven't found one that works. I've also moved the .SDE files between two different network drives and my local drive to check if it's a network error and I still can't open datasets even when the SDE is stored locally. If this is an issue with ArcPro 3.1, is reverting to 3.0 the only option?
arc.open("S:\\xxxxxxx\\GIS\\Database_Connections\\xxxxx_gis.sde\\FACILITIES.FACILITIES")
fails, as does
arc.open("C:\\Users\\xxx\\Documents\\xxxxx_gis.sde\\FACILITIES.FACILITIES")
arc.open("C:\\Users\\xxx\\Documents\\ArcGIS\\Projects\\xxx\\Default.gdb\\selected_addresses")
correctly accesses the dataset.
error: Error in .call_proxy("dataset.open", .Object, path) : cannot open dataset
