qbittorrent-website's Issues

PPA for Ubuntu 22.04

Hi,

Ubuntu 22.04 aka Jammy was released a while ago, but qbittorrent still has no PPA for it. Would you please add it? Thanks.

Website Proposal

Hi,

I have started updating the qBittorrent website.
For now, it uses the previous content (pages).

First draft:
https://github.com/wbadrh/qBittorrent-website

Online preview:
https://qbittorrent.000webhostapp.com/

Suggestions welcome!

Some ideas

What are your thoughts on the following?

  • changing the links in the header to be their destinations instead of wiki.qbittorrent.org, for example.
  • adding a donate link to the header or perhaps a donate button
  • removing the "version ribbon"
    image
a problem I had

When I tried making the header image fit the width for smaller widths, the height would shrink and the ribbon took up the same amount of space while the menu moved up. This meant that the first few menu items couldn't be accessed! I solved this by making the height stay the same. It could've been solved by changing the ribbon so that clicks go through as there's enough space. https://github.com/simonwhitaker/github-fork-ribbon-css does it better than https://github.com/codepo8/css-fork-on-github-ribbon IMO, but I'm sure there's a way to fix up the current one. Edit: Fixed it with pointer-events!

Screenshot of this problem

image

  • removing the "latest version this way" download image
    image
  • adding a "Download version x.x.x" button
  • modifying Chris's banner to not have the "Free and reliable P2P Bittorrent client" text and to replace that with actual text

Design mockup homepage proposal + mobile

I've kept to the original layout and feel of the current website and cleaned up some of the outdated components such as the header.

QBittorrent Project Redesign

Hi,
I have been using qBittorrent for many years and wanted it to be upgraded with the current design standards. Therefore I am proposing this new logo mark & typeface for the whole QBittorrent brand so that it lasts for years to come and competes with the other premium torrent clients.

Attaching the proposal in PDF format below.

Note: If you like this proposal, I want to even help you redesign the whole website. No coding though.

About me:
I am a Brand Identity and UI/UX Designer who has been working for fortune 500 companies for more than 5 years. I always wanted to support open-source projects as these usually lagged behind due to funding. Hope this helps.
Thanks

[Discussion] Do you really need to point about 'µTorrent-like UI'?

So as title says, I suggest to remove/edit this 'feature' on the front page:
image

Reasons:

  • QB is already widely known and quite popular. From my experience it is on top 1-2 among the other torrent clients.
  • UI has been polished a lot further and went in its own way.
  • uTorrent is proprietary software with quite dirty reputation (after that strange story with build-in miner). I would better stay apart from such references.

4.2.1 installer signature mirror wrong link

At https://qbittorrent.org/download.php the link to signature of x64 installer signature is https://sourceforge.net/projects/qbittorrent/files/qbittorrent-win32/qbittorrent-4.2.0/qbittorrent_4.2.1_x64_setup.exe.asc/download
correct link of course is:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/qbittorrent/files/qbittorrent-win32/qbittorrent-4.2.1/qbittorrent_4.2.1_x64_setup.exe.asc/download

The 32 bit version has the same issue.

IPv6 support

It was fixed as part of #60, but seems to be broken again.

Namely, www.qbittorrent.org lacks an AAAA record (although qbittorrent.org does have one):

# host www.qbittorrent.org
www.qbittorrent.org has address 148.251.180.186
# host qbittorrent.org
qbittorrent.org has address 148.251.180.186
qbittorrent.org has IPv6 address 2a01:4f8:1c1c:3bd5::

And trying to access qbittorrent.org over IPv6 results in a timeout (maybe a firewall issue?):

# curl https://qbittorrent.org -6
curl: (7) Failed to connect to qbittorrent.org port 443: Connection timed out

HTTP/2 was enabled as part of #61, but also seems to be off now.

Website down

Hmmm, I'm seeing the website is often down, what happened?

Maybe it's possible to utilize CDN, e.g. cloudflare.

Where are old versions?

Hello

My iMac is running High Sierra. I recently discovered that the current version (4.3.3) is not compatible but it got installed through an update offered by the app.

That being said, can you consider including a link to older versions of the software at qbittorrent.org or here on GitHub and/or perhaps including a mechanism in future versions that prohibit updates being offered/applied when a newer version might yields an incompatibility issue.

Thanks and I hope this message finds you well.

Best regards
—Alex

Need information about fonts

RSS feed for news

I would like to request adding a RSS feed for the development news. It would be nice to be able to track with an RSS aggregator what new stuff has been implemented in this wonderful torrent client.

Links to issues/commits lacking in the changelog.

Hello!

Often an item in a changelog in itself doesn't make it obvious what a change/fix means, it might be completely incomprehensible without further explanation. Or you don't know where to search for a new feature.
For this reason, links to relevant issues and pull requests would greatly increase the usefulness of the changelog.

(I also don't think it's a good idea that the changelog is in a "news" section. 99% of it is the changelog. This makes it difficult if someone actually wants to see the news. Or finding the changelog which is in an unexpected section)

Update which Ubuntu distros supported in download.php

The following lines

<br/>The <b>stable</b> PPA supports Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (only the libtorrent-rasterbar package), 16.04 LTS, 17.04, 17.10 and 18.04 LTS.
<br/>The <b>unstable</b> PPA supports Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, 17.04, 17.10 and 18.04 LTS.
say what Ubuntu distros are supported by the PPAs but I think they are out of date, as I think 20.04 is now supported, and possibly older versions are no longer supported. I'm not definite enough to make a PR myself as I haven't actually tested!

Simplified Logo

Heya, been working on a simplified logo for qb, as the light outline looks rather janky and outdated in the taskbar.

I took the same gradient, at a negative 45° angle, removed the outline and placed the letters in Arial Bold, with q opacity being 75% white and Letter Spacing at negative 100.

qb icon no-jank

And the same one but with Letter Spacing at negative 60

qb icon no-jank spacing

What do you guys think? I am up for some improvement, please shoot me your suggestions.

Search thru VPN and Proxy

Hi,
it seams that searching with the Python plugins while connected with a Proxy thru VPN doesn't work.

Changelog proposal: Paginated logs, one page for each version.

The changelog page is getting way too long, which isn't a huge problem, but I guess this could be a minor improvement:

Using pagination, one page for each (minor, or major, I'd suggest minor) version, with an index of versions on the first page, so people can search for the version they want to read, or just see the latest one (probably the one people want to see most commonly) on the first page.

I can make this if everyone agrees to the change.

IPv6 support

The qBittorrent website is inaccessible over IPv6 (albeit boasting that qBittorrent itself is IPv6 compliant).

Turkish translater name update

Hi,

Could you update name of the Turkish translater in localization page and also in application's Translators tab as "Burak Yavuz (BouRock)"?

Regards,
Burak

Good news everybody!

@Chocobo1 I made you admin for this new repo. You can manage PRs, bugs, new members/admins.
If you don't want to be admin then tell me.

I am also tagging @qbittorrent/qbittorrent-frequent-contributors to take notice of this new repo.

@buinsky will probably be interested and might want write access. @Chocobo1 feel free to manage it accordingly.

FYI, the site has moved to a non-sf.net server. And we now support HTTPS by "Let's Encrypt". The server is run by shiki(forum's overlord). He will use a script to check for updates in the repo and then pull+publish them.

js puzzles wont let me in

dude remove that cancer ddos protection that makes people click hydrants and crosswalks for literally ever if you dont have all the google zonds up Uranus or using tor/vpn/proxy. we all of course want to help the development of google autopilot, but pls lets focus on bittorrent with this one. cheers

Website mockup / proposal

Just the homepage for now. Feedback is welcome!
I tried to make the design more modern, and make the download button clearer.

I can do more if requested. Other pages, responsive mobile view, etc

Outdated operating system support information

The website (downloads section -> other binary packages -> Linux -> Ubuntu) states certain Ubuntu versions as supported by the stable/unstable PPAs, but this is not the case.
Right now:

  • the stable PPA supports 14.04LTS (only the libtorrent-rasterbar package), 16.04 LTS, 17.04, 17.10, and 18.04 LTS; on the website it claims supporting 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS, 14.10, and 15.04.
  • the unstable PPA supports 16.04 LTS, 17.04, 17.10, 18.04 LTS; on the website it claims supporting 14.04 LTS, 14.10, and 15.04.

This issue is possibly also present for other distro/os selections but I haven't checked for those.

EDIT: image below, illustrating the issue
qbittorrent

HTTP/2 support

The qBittorrent website doesn't support HTTP/2. Apache does support it, so it shouldn't be hard to fix.

Logo/icon proposal

I was playing around with some icon designs to make qBittorrent look more modern, here's what I came up with!
image

Moving the project to ReactJS

I propose to create a version of the site on the React library. I think it will be cool if the site is one-page, respectively, we will save the site from reloading.

List of top devs should be updated

I have listed top devs of last 2 years using command
git log --pretty="%an <%ae>" --since=31/08/2015 | sort | uniq -c | sort -n -r

Here is truncated top list of dev with num of patches in first column

17 Vladimir Golovnev (qlassez) <glassez(at)yandex.ru>
11 Bert Verhelst <verhelstbert(at)gmail.com>

So i think information at site about current active developers should be corrected.
