jobs's Issues

Instructions for self-hosting dont seem to work

When I fire up a self-hosted site with "hyde serve" all I get is an empty site.

That is to say that I see the banner and logo but not any content, despite having copied the content into the hyde/content/jobs directory.

Have call-to-arms banner for initial period

In order to drive traffic, and build a community, a short call-to-arms statement on the homepage will help.

This is something we can add, then phase out as things progress

Please see https://travis-ci.org/pythonjobs/jobs/builds/556879043 as follows:

The command "../template/build.py ." exited with 1.

Font loading is broken on https:// site

We're loading the fonts from the google cdn, on demand, and this doesn't work for the https:// site

This should be trivial to fix by using a protocol-relative link when loading the font styles

Website no longer updating; Travis needs migrating

Hello,

I was looking into posting a job ad when I noticed the website was no longer updating, despite a new job being posted recently. I think this is because travis-ci.org has been retired, so the builds are no longer building.

However I believe open source projects are still supported for free at travis-ci.com and there's a migration guide here: https://docs.travis-ci.com/user/migrate/open-source-repository-migration

Would one of the admins be able to look into that?

Thanks,
Dan.

Jobs which are older than 1y shouldn't show up on the home page

@lordmauve @stestagg - I was thinking of making a change to limit the amount of content on the home page: Jobs older than 1y will no longer be visible.

The rationale for this is to limit what is on our home page to roles which are likely to be current roles.

We might need a separate process to take down very old job ads.

Would you care to comment on this?

Sal

Include some text for 'candidate' users on homepage

Have some introductory text on the homepage (not too long) that states:

  • What the board is about
  • Ask for feedback from candidates if job is no longer available or bad experience
  • Another copy of the 'go here to submit' link

YunoJuno job post CI error

Hi there,

I wonder if you could help us. There is an error with the CI for #262

I am not sure how to debug this (I'm helping Estella Reid with this). What's the best way to get to a fix?

rss feed broken

I am not sure to which extend this is due to github but importing your feed into tiny tiny rss throws the following error error 68 at line 623 (column 69), xmlParseEntityRef: no name.

Please let me know if I can provide additional backup information and thanks for your work on this.

"import job"

Inspired by a Reddit comment:

We could create a library for API access to pythonjobs.

$ pip install job

The library could have functions for querying available jobs, maybe even a method for bulk applying - it might drop you into os.environ['EDITOR'] to compose an e-mail and then e-mail it to the mail addresses listed for the jobs.

A bit of a joke but could be fun.

All tags should be lowercase

Since we don't currently reject tags that are upper-case, let's make it so that all tags are grouped in a case-insensitive kind of way.

That way the tag "London" and "LONDON" and "London" will all mean the same thing but will display as "london".

3 job postings outside `jobs` folder?

Hi!

I stumbled upon 3 job postings that are located at the root folder of the repository rather than the jobs folder. They do not seem to be listed on the live website. It's these files:

One of these is as recent as three months old. Should they be deleted, moved to the jobs folder or ..?

Best, Sebastian

Do something about tag proliferation

There are now too many tags to display in a reasonable amount of space on the site - the tags panel is over a screenful high.

We should set some rules about tags that can be used and purge tags from all listings if they aren't helpful. The location tags in particular are duplicative, and lots of the technology tags are more like "we use this" rather than descriptive of a role.

We could also omit tags that are only included in a single posting.
