motios's Issues

Correct saddle plate bearing mounting hole and counter bore sizes

The saddle plates for X and Y axes have a number of counter bored holes, mainly for mounting the bearings, which are M5. The correct counter bore diameter is 9.75mm, depth 5mm, on a 5.8mm hole (normal fit).

To ensure the socket head cap screw sits below the surface of the plate, the depth of the counter bore can be made 5.5mm

Provide for magnetic bases

Much of the construction is expected to be aluminium. Provide some embedded sections suitable for mounting magnetic bases for tools like DTIs.

Example locations might be on the bed itself, somewhere on the moving Z axis structure, on the Z axis pillar, and on the front plate.

A simple section, perhaps 50mm square embedded into, either with bolts or loctite, the surfaces, being perhaps 0.5mm below the surface, would suffice.

Provide mounting for bellows

Y and Z axes need bellows, and will need mounting facilities. This will most likely mean tapped holes in suitable locations

Provide base plate registration on front/back plates

The current design has the base plate butting up flush against the front and back plates. By extending the base plate, and providing a suitable slot in the abutting face of the front and back plates, the base plate can have a suitable registration and surface through which vertical forces can be transmitted.

Without such an adjustment all of the vertical forces are effectively transmitted through the bolts holding the extrusions, and the holes for those bolts in the plates are not close tolerance.

Provide for automated cutter length detection

Provide a location and equipment to allow the Z offset of the currently inserted cutter to be detected.

Quite likely this will be an electronic sensor of some sort, embedded into the bed itself, at some mostly out of the way location.
