shanghai's Issues

Reminder: Your action items for ProtoSchool's new local leadership model

@steven004 @DjangoPeng

As announced in early March, ProtoSchool's new local leadership model centers around events as opposed to chapters and gives local event organizers more flexibility. If you haven't yet done so, there are a few steps you'll need to take as we transition to this new model, especially since it no longer relies on the use of GitHub.

Tasks to complete by the end of April:

If you have questions on the new local leadership model or your options as we transition, please feel free to email us.

Thank you so much for your continued community leadership!DjangoPeng

Review Code of Conduct

We've provided a draft Code of Conduct for you that includes the contact information you provided for reporting purposes. Please ensure that these contact details are correct.

Please ensure that all chapter organizers have reviewed the CoC thoroughly and are comfortable enforcing it.

(This will need to be done before we can list your chapter on our website.)

Optional: Our tutorials are currently all in English, but If you decide that you'll be conducting your chapter events and repo discussions in a language other than English, you are welcome to update your Code of Conduct to the appropriate language. What's used right now is a custom Code of Conduct that mixes the Contributor Covenant (see available translations) with the Conference Code of Conduct (see available translations) to ensure it covers interactions both online and at events.

Add your chapter to our listings

Once issues #1 & #2 are complete, please complete Step 5 in the chapter setup instructions by opening a pull request to have your chapter included in the list of ProtoSchool chapters.

Please be sure to include the repo field so that your listing will link to this chapter repo. Should you decide that you'd like your listing to go to a website instead (now or in the future), you can add an additional website field with the appropriate URL, which will update the link.

Personalize repo

We've provided a basic readme for you, but you should personalize it for your own
chapter's needs. You might want to:

  • adjust the welcome section
  • add some regional flair (like Mumbai's multi-language welcome or Seattle's emojis ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ—ปโ˜”๏ธ)
  • include additional contact info for organizers (email, Twitter, etc.)
  • mention related Meetup groups that will be hosting your ProtoSchool events
  • request help planning upcoming events
  • call for co-organizers to join you
  • add calls to action (see below)

When someone learns of your ProtoSchool chapter for the first time by visiting your repo's readme, what would you like them to do next? Providing a clear call to action is a best practice for making newcomers feel welcome and increasing community involvement.

How can your members learn about upcoming events? Will they be published at a Meetup website that you've linked to? Will they be announced in an issue in your repo (example), which means they should watch the repo to be notified?

Do you need help planning your next event, perhaps in the form of mentors or meeting space? Try opening an issue in your repo for event planning (example) and linking to it from your readme file with a friendly "Help us plan our next event!" message.

Do you need co-organizers? If so, tell them who they should reach out to (and how) to offer their help (example).

The processes you use to communicate with your members are up to you, but you should aim to make it clear from the readme how people can get involved and stay up-to-date.
