there are no cities available for unitedkingdom

There are multiple occurrences of same cities with different latitude and longitude. It show millions of cities records in the world. There are 27,74,830 records in the cities table while there are 20,77,157 unique city records.

region names are empty for canada and few other countries.

This database is not reliable for Brazil. It adds several cities to Sao Paulo, such as Vitoria and Vila Velha, that are actually in Espirito Santo. These are also listed in Espirito Santo so they are duplicated (and in the wrong region).

I can't confirm the full list of wrong cities, however it's interesting that the cities database brings 48k rows while it's known up to 38k cities in the world.

Firstly, thanks for making the resource available; generally it been very helpful, but I'm afraid the data is not accurate enough to work with as I have found multiple issues. To name but a few:

• Multiple regions have no name.
  In some cases such as Canada (33) or the Ivory Coast (39), most, if not all of the regions are unnamed. All of the Canadian province names are missing!
• New Zealand (158)
  Region 2613 (Manawatu-Wanganui) contains only two cities, when in fact most of the cities in this region have been placed into region 2598 (Wellington)
• The geoboxes for many countries are off E.G. Svalbard and many of the smaller Pacific Island nations
• The location of many cities (particularly small villages) shows some uninhabited region.
  E.G. Ouled Mnassir in Boumerdes, Algeria (Country 56, Region 849, City 660412)
• Why do so many of the cities in Albania have double parentheses around the name?
  E.G. "(( Beluç i Sipërm ))" in Gjirokaster (Country 6, Region 69, City 72416) . The geolocation also points to what looks like an uninhabited, mountainous region of Albania

I'm not sure of the source from which you created this data, but it appears to have some significant gaps.

I found two problems.
1. SELECT * FROM regions WHERE regions.country_id=17

Bangladesh has 7 Division, though soon it may be 8. But U seen first row Name is empty.

2. SELECT *FROM cities INNER JOIN regions ON cities.region_id = regions.id WHERE cities.name = 'Dumuria'

City Dumuria has repeated 3 times. Though there is only one Dumuria, it is in Khulna. And same problem, One region name missed. Tough Dumuria is not city but it can be considered.

I have not checked any other.

I get your project and put the prefix location_ in all tables. Does it is useful to you?

I manually updated the script for MS SQL Server. Then, I exported the new script.
This is for those who are using this DB. Maybe you can add the zip to your depot?

Need to rename *.z0?.zip into *.z0? (could not upload a file larger than 10 Mb and not finishing by .zip).
