picard-daily's Introduction

Daily builds for MusicBrainz Picard

This repository provides daily inofficial binary builds for the latest development version of MusicBrainz Picard.

Note

Currently these builds are for the Picard 2.x branch only. The builds will be updated to Picard 3 (master branch) once the new plugin system is in place. See also issue #4.

Packages

Warning

The binary packages provided here are built from Picard's latest development code and might be unstable or contain bugs. The packages are provided as is without any warranty. Use at your own risk and always make backups of your files.

The latest builds are always available on the release page. The following builds are provided:

Linux AppImage

๐Ÿ“ฆ MusicBrainz-Picard-daily-x86_64.AppImage

Tip

See Running AppImages. I recommend installing AppImageLauncher to integrate AppImage easily into the desktop environment.

You can store Picard's configuration next to the AppImage by creating a folder with the same name as the AppImage but with .config appended. If you keep the default name create a folder MusicBrainz-Picard-daily-x86_64.AppImage.config. For more details see Using Portable Mode in the AppImage user documentation.

Windows Portable

Feedback and issue reports

For feedback, feature requests and issues regarding the daily builds please discuss on the MetaBrainz community forums before opening an issue on GitHub.

Any general feature requests and bug reports for Picard should be reported to the official ticket system. If in doubt if an issue effects Picard in general or the daily builds specifically ask on the MetaBrainz community forums first.

picard-daily's Issues

Trim down the AppImage

The AppImage contains many binaries and libs, mostly added by the conda plugin. Many of those (especially in usr/conda/bin) are likely not needed for running Picard.

Build Picard 3 (master branch)

Currently this builds the 2.10.x branch. As soon as the master branch is in a state where it is usable again (plugin system) daily builds should provide Picard 3.x development builds.

This will require Qt6 support.

mp3 TXXX/releasetype tag not showing up

Thanks for making these 'dailies' available.
It's interesting for taking a look at what's going on and doing some testing.

Here's something I observed just now.
But it could very well be me doing something dumb, and I also haven't checked if this happened with older regular releases. (call me lazy)
I'm pretty sure this mp3 file:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/v8ly5nybpkswrq28wrv3t/01-test-test.mp3?rlkey=hrgnvnaq6yy3mkeg4izoxlvfh&dl=0
contains a tag: TXXX/releasetype with the value: release type test
But when loading it into the latest daily (Version 2.10.0.dev1 (293-3018d527.20230920004338) it doesn't show up at all.
Is this me?

edit:
It looks there is also something wrong with Picard writing such a 'release type' tag.
Out-of-the-box It will write it for FLAC files (RELEASETYPE), but while the preview suggests it gets written for MP3 and APE also, it looks like it does not actually get written for these file types.
Also, I just now saw that the tag mapping table says it should write TXXX:MusicBrainz Album Type, but a release can be a single, so the wording Album might be incorrect? So why not just TXXX:releasetype?
