we'd need to remove character class subtraction, because it's allowed in .NET but not in PCRE. E.g. [a-z-[aeiuo]] has a different meaning in each of them - while in .NET it matches b, in PCRE it matches -].

Pattern 1:

Pattern 2:

the following pattern is correct, although it throws A subtraction must be the last element in a character class.

/^[ !#-[\]-~]*\z/

Example:

var_dump(preg_match('/^[ !#-[\]-~]*\z/', $subject));

following pcre fails to parse:

/^\p{Arabic}/u

I do get the following warning, compiling Laminas:
warning PHP5031: PCRE pattern parse error: Unrecognized grouping construct. at offset 5
laminas\laminas-http\src\Header\AbstractAccept.php

preg_match(
                        '/^(?|([^"-]*)|"([^"]*)")-(?|([^"-]*)|"([^"]*)")\z/',

The issue seems to be with branch reset groups.
