mapofmetal's Issues

Different song than shown on the website

Hey!

Love your website, but I found out that at "Folk Metal" Trollhammeren - Finntroll shows the song "Solsagan" and Finntroll is written with two "n"

Just two little things that I saw when clicking through the website :)

Mobile support

Currently the site only supports devices 732px wide and above. Unfortunately the current design will have to be reworked a fair bit to support mobile devices.

Power metal / Hammerfall

On the powermetal list at Hammerfall the title says it's the song Hammerfall from 1997, while the link open Hammer High, from the Built to last from last from 2016.
Love both of them, but it's not correct. :)

Site stuck when a video gets blocked

LOVE the site! But I noticed a bug, when a video is forbidden (i.e: the starting video, Black Sabbath Black Sabbath) I'm unable to do anything beyond move my cursor about the map. Cannot click into any of the genres or even listen to other songs within the heavy metal playlist. If I try to click into one of the songs or the other genres, I am no longer able to move the cursor and the site appears frozen.

Hopefully a quick fix otherwise I'd be happy to look into it myself, the concept and execution of the site is awesome. Was working just fine for me the other day.

Search

Site is amazing! A search feature for bands would really cool.

No working Site

Hello
what happen? no load the page, you need hosting? or sometime else?
Regards

Different song linked than on the site

At new wave of american heavy metal, the song "nightmare" by avenged sevenfold is listed. When you press the link however, so far away by avenged sevenfold is played, which is in a totally different genre

Time for an Update

I Really love this website but it has some issues that need to be fixed and some genres that need to be added.

Issues

  1. Djent needs to come from Progressive metal as Messhugah and Periphery pretty much created the genre, it doesn't really have any roots in Tech Death

  2. Add Steel Panther to Glam Metal as it needs a modern example. Death To All But Metal would be a good example.

  3. Include in the 'Post Metal' description that it is also known as 'Metalgaze', 'Art Metal' or Atmospheric Sludge

  4. Include in "Black Ambient" that it is also known as 'Atmospheric Black Metal"

  5. More examples for Post Metal:
    Allagoch - Limbs
Wolves in the Throne Room - Vastness and Sorrow
    Pelican - The Creeper

  6. You have regional scenes for death metal such as swedish death metal and south american death metal as genres on the map. Maybe have regional scenes of thrash such as Bay Area, East Coast Thrash, Brazilian Thrash, Teutonic Thrash, etc. or atleast make note of them in Thrash's description. Just a thought.

  7. Groove Metal doesen't really have any origins in Rap Metal. Like none whatsover. Not sure why that's on the map or in the description. Theres a reason its also called Post-Thrash (Which should also be added to the description. Description should also say "At its core, groove metal takes the intensity and sonic qualities of thrash metal and plays them at mid-tempo, with most bands making only occasional forays into fast tempo." Some other examples that would be good to add since there aren't a ton currently would be Lamb of God - Laid to Rest, Pantera - Walk, White Zombie -Thunder Kiss 65 and Machine Head - Locust

  8. I Didn't want to include them below because i didn't know if you wanted to differentiate them, but Goregrind and Pornogrind have also grown out of Deathgrind for the most part, even though they are mostly thematic differences, though there are a couple stylistic differences.

  9. There are also Death and Black subgenres of Industrial Metal if you consider them valid subgenres of their own.

  10. All That Remains has gotten quite big as of late, so they may be a good example for metalcore

suggestion band

I would like Paganyny to be in the Neo-Classical Metal genre, it's a pioneer neo-classical metal band from Colombia which contributes to the generation of new rhythms and tracks to this genre particular style, looking to promote it and provide the world a modern and powerful Metal show.

Time for an update?

Hi there, you've made a wonderful work!
Don't you think it'd be time though to lay down the newer genres that are already established by now like both 3rd waves of (Orthodox: think DsO and its clones) Black Metal and (Atmospheric: Ulcerate and its followers) Death? There's also the whole wave of post-punk/noise influenced bands playing Post-Black like Deafheaven and the like. Or the revivalist genres like retro-thrash, doom, and heavy (though perhaps those are lacking in transcendence towards their own genres).

layout

Hi,

absolutely love the site, I'll visit daily for a bit of inspiration for what to listen to at work.

This is personal preference but i'd love to be able to move the You Tube player from top right to bottom right or top left and the option to minimise the playlist and genre description when i'm flying around the map, with maximising again when I click on a genre.

Year Axis

Why does this map have two year axis (horizontal and vertical). It's very confusing.

Project stalled ?

Has this fine project stalled ?

It seems the most recent issue is from 2018 !

Map Control

Great Website!

But I cannot interact with the map very well. I feel I should be able to move around more like google maps, grabbing the map and moving it about. There are plenty of areas on the map I can't seem to get to because the music video, description of the era and the list of songs are blocking them. I can zoom in and out all I want, but I cannot move about and see what lurks behind the foreground. Fix this, and you guys/gals will have a sweet website. I especially love the pirate theme!

Different song linked than on site

To Whom It May Concern:

I am absolutely loving this website and think it's very well done. I do want to point out that under 'South American Death Metal' you link an Apocalyptica cover of Sepultura's 'Inquisition Symphony' instead of the Sepultura version. I'm going to assume this wasn't intentional since Apocalyptica isn't South American, and that with the massive amount of songs you put into this site you just didn't see that it was a cover.

Otherwise, great job! I have already sent this link to my History of Rock professor and really hope he finds it appropriate to share with our class, as we have just covered garage rock, hardcore, punk and metal in our last unit.

Thanks!
