chocofi's Issues

Screw size

Doesn't seem to be any documentation on the size of screw needed for the case. I have M2s and M3s but neither fit, so I'm guessing M2.5? Roughly 6mm long?

Screw size on case, possible issue with tolerance

Hi @pashutk , love the keyboard nice work :)

What screw size is intended for the case? On most cases M2 is the standard. The screw holes are 2.4 mm, so way too big for M2 screws. So I'm thinking you are either using bigger screws or its a tolerance issues on your printer you had to adjust for. Like the plate holes V1 issue.

Just to be clear I'm referring to the screw holes in the bottom part of the case, where the screws bite into the plastic.

I modified the v1 case to fit m2 screws, on a printer with tight tolerance (1.9 mm screw holes). Let me know if you want a pull request.

top.stl switch plate holes too big

Hello, I printed the case but found that the switch fit isn't snug, after some measuring I found that the holes are 15mm in width and height. 13.8mm w*h is the ideal hole size for choc switches, even the 14mm for MX switches are a bit loose. I would modify this and send a PR but I don't have the time right now to learn how to, so just letting you know for now. :(

Forgive the ruler work, the ruler tool in FreeCad doesn't snap to a grid.

MX switches

The board in the images folder looks like it works both with mx and choco switches, though I can't quite tell. A friend of mine ordered the board for me, and is 3D printing the chassis, so I don't know much about the build. I just would like to know if mx switches will fit in the board. I know the fifi exists but its nice to have the option.

Are the provided gerbers original, or production gerbers

I sent off the gerbers for this board to JLBPCB yesterday, and they got back to me asking the following:

Sorry to bother you, but there is an issue that we want to confirm with you before proceeding.
As shown below, It seems that the gerber file is working production file with compensation on the holes and trace for production.
If it is original file, we will make the compensation on the hole and trace. If it is production file, we will proceed without compensation.
For the file generated from the software, and has not been used for production, we call it original file.
So shall we proceed as per the gerber file with further compensation and optimization or not?

Are you able to shed some light on what the correct response is?

Add Leds?

Hello, I'm thinking about making a second set of this keyboard with leds, would I be able to solder in leds in the diode slot and be able to program them?

And If am able to put in leds, would I need to do anything special if I put the leds on top of the board, underneath the keys?

Explain the different PCB files

I am new to kicad and I wanted to explore the pcb files, but I see several .pro files, there's chocofi.pro and chocofi.kicad_pro for example. Could you please explain the difference between those files?

firmware?

is there an OSS qmk/zmk config somewhere I could clone?

License

I'm interested in riffing on some of the designs (e.g. the case) in this repo. Is that something you would permit? If so, adding a license to the repo would be great.

Recommended battery version

What battery numbers do people find works best to slide under the nano? I’ve seen one person use the 301230. Perhaps the ideal options could be listed in the readme for reference?

Please share step files for case top and bottom

Hi @pashutk chocofi is great, and I'm currently using it now, I'm looking at encasing it, and want to make some mods to the case, like for a power switch, could you share the step files so that it would be easier to make modifications, please? Thank you!

Missing case files for right side of the keyboard

It seems that currently the case directory contains files only for the left side of the keyboard.
I believe that "flipping" the design might be trival task for anyone having any 3d printing knowledge but for someone like me (who just wants to use some 3d printing service) it is definitely non-trival.

It would be great if we could have separate ready-to-use case files for both sides of the kebyoard.

Question : Can the case be printed in metal?

I want to build a keyboard that will last slightly higher temperatures, the place where I live comes slightly too close to the SLA max temperatures. Is the PCB good to go in a metal enclosure? If yes, are there any additional steps I have to take?

Add encoders

I would love to see this board with support for encoders on the third thumb key. Is this possible?
