I'm not sure I understand.
Textile is handled by RedCloth, not Maruku.

Aah sorry, my mistake. I've misunderstood the maruku transition.
I replaced the RedCloth v3.0.3 with http://redcloth.org's git
version e.g version 4.2.2+. This version seems to work very well for us!
We are now using ragel generated native scanner.

Having a C-based parser is surely much faster than a Ruby-native one. But less portable. We're trying to minimize the number of external dependencies in Instiki.
