bluelib's Introduction

Bluelib

This library offers you the possibility to use the Bluetooth Low Energy in your software. This library offers a simpler and more diversified interface to generate request as a client Bluetooth Low Energy device than blueZ. This doesn't replace BlueZ, but helps develop a program using Bluetooth Low Energy as client faster.

In v2 you can have a multi-server architecture in one thread. The multi thread requests doesn't work yet.

This library use and is based on the BlueZ library which is under the therms of the GNU General Public License. For more informations: www.bluez.org

Libraries needed on Ubuntu

A update to at least ubuntu 12.10 or later might be useful.

glib2.0

sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev

BlueZ

sudo apt-get install bluez

Bluetooth devellopement library

sudo apt-get install libbluetooth-dev

Optionnal for having the dump of the Bluetooth packet exchanged

sudo apt-get install bluez-hcidump wireshark

Problem to connect with your device in security level medium/high

To repair a Bluetooth device:

sudo bluez-simple-agent hci0 [MAC ADRESS of the device in format

bluelib's Issues

Allow mutli thread to send request to a same device.

Currently, the library is made for one thread making request one after another. But I realised people can ask for having several threads making request at random time, whatever is the application.

The point blocking the multi-threading is the common context to all the call-backs. This problem could be solved by giving specified context (using user_data) to each callback.

Read multiple value

Feature specified in the Bluetooth core V4 masterfile, (section 3-G-4) but not implemented.

Upgrade of the notifications system

  • See during test that g_attrib_register doesn't make the registration to the BLE device. There is a possibility that g_attrib_unregister doesn't do the unregistration on to the BLE device.
  • I added to the event system of BlueZ the storage of UUID, but here there is no protection if several notifications has the same UUID.
  • Finally, offer the possibility to activate an auto-callback function on the "service changed" characteristic, to update the handle stocked in the event list of BlueZ.

Secondary services / Included service

I didn't have any BLE device available that used included/secondary service. So first of all the function has never been appropriatly tested.

And secondly I wonder if a function to get secondary service are necessary, or if the function to get service is enough ? Since I never experienced this use case.
