Sometimes you might have configured bundler to replace process.env.NODE_ENV with actual value. This replacement will obviously not be detected by the lib since it checks env by keys dynamically.

Note that doing this on backend side does not make any special sense since backend relies on the fact that NODE_ENV might be changed anytime, not only for build.

NODE_ENV=development node build/server.js

Either way, just to add support for frontend build there is a need to support that.
