The README has this section:

unmountComponentAtNode is missing in all APIs (no idea how to do that in Preact)

In Preact we treat null as an empty value, so you can destroy a root by calling render(null, container). We do that ourselves in our react compatibility layer:

function unmountComponentAtNode(container) {
	if (container._children) {
		render(null, container);
		return true;
	}
	return false;
}
