ottercastaudiov2's Issues

Explanation of different audio/control sources

Hello,

I see that the Ottercast supports the following protocols/software/standards (?). But, thinking about how the Ottercast could be used in conjunction with AntennaPod, I'm wondering about each of their functionalities purposes & availability on Android

  • shairport-sync: Airplay replacement, not relevant for Android
  • snapcast: from what I read a quite extensive package, allowing multi-room synchronised sound. They (and thus, I assume, Ottercast) support quite a few sources. They also have a demo Android app. Due to my limited understanding in this area, though, I'm not sure if any Android app would be able to send the URL of an online audio-file or -stream (can 'file' be an online file?).
  • Spotify Connect Spotify-only I assume :)
  • pulseaudio sink/source Linux audio system, I understand from this blog post that on Android it would have to replace Android's native audio system. No clue if/how it would support streaming/remote control from Android.

Would you have any thoughts on this? What would be the best way to get a Chromecast-like experience in Android apps?

Integrated circuit shortage or obsolete parts management

Hello Ottercast hardware and firmware developpers,

I downloaded Ottercast open source project.
First, a huge thanks because it was exactly what I was looking for.
Then, I tried to order the assembled PCB but some components are noted as inventory shortage on JLCPCB. (On octopart too)
Maybe, I can found alternate parts for some, but the AXP209 seems unavailable.

Did you plan to change this component ?

If you need, I think I can made a fork and do components changes using Kicad but I don't know if doing this will broke the software or not.

Do you have any advices ?

AirPlay 2 Compatibility?

As Shairport-Sync seems to be in the final stages of implementing the AirPlay 2 functionalities, it would be very interesting to know if there is
a) a way of installing the beta-version of shairport-sync
and b) how it will perform on OttercastAudioV2, if it is released.

As I currently don’t have an Device myself, as I hoped I would be able to simply buy a completely working OttercastAudio-board.
And if If i do the additional soldering myself, I would like to know, if I could use it later for AirPlay 2 too.

Plexamp Support

Recently saw that Plexamp can be installed as a node.js server on a Raspberry Pi. Wondering if it would be possible on an Ottercast, this would be incredibly helpful, and would likely bring in a bunch of Plex fans, given the possibility of multi-room support in Plexamp.

Thoughts?

NymphCast support

Hello
I've been watching this space for a while and it's really cool what you folks are making :) I'm currently using Chromecast a lot but interested in replacing it with an open source stack (so I've following #2 also).

Now, I've also seen NymphCast, some kind of an open source Chromecast replacement, which looks cool as well. Not sure if you were aware of it, so I thought I'd share.

Quite far away still, but the ultimate dream is to stream audio from AntennaPod and Funkwhale, via NymphCast, to OtterCast :)

Issues with BOM / pick & place file when ordering from JLCPCB

Hello,

Thanks for trying to make it so easy to order PCBAs from JLC, but for some reason I'm still having trouble with lots of parts not included in the pick and place CSV.

When I upload theBOM_v2.1.csv and POS_v2.1.csv files from production_v2.1 directly with no modifications, I get the following list of components that won't be placed from the BOM because they aren't found in the placement file:

image

I was expecting a few designators here because I noticed some parts marked DNP in the BOM (like the first part, C49). I was surprised by a couple other things in the list that were also marked DNP in the BOM like U6 (SSM2603, audio codec IC) and U7 (wifi module). Some other designators like C92/C99/X1 have valid BOM part numbers and aren't marked DNP in the BOM, so I would expect them to have data in the pick and place file (especially, X1, a 26MH oscillator seems like it would be necessary?).

I haven't seen any other issues posted about this, so am I just missing something really obvious and this is totally fine, or has something changed and there needs to be a repo/design update?

JTAG required for first boot?

Does one need a specialized JTAG programmer for getting it up and running the first time around? Or is everything just over SD card?
