The following tags could be added as layers with nodes (perhaps also ways); node counts are from taginfo (total) or overpass turbo (e.g. node[man_made=cross][direction];).

• man_made=adit (7513 total, 217 with direction)
• man_made=cross (3378 total, 42 with direction)
• advertising=billboard (17 752 total, 585 with direction)
• advertising=poster_box (3644 total, 131 with direction)
• advertising=board (1727 total, 31 with direction)
• advertising=totem (261 total, 37 with direction)

Curiously, many of the advertising=billboard are tagged with direction=forward (53) or direction=backward (8). None of the others are tagged with forward or backward. I'm guessing most were attempts at orientation, but some (e.g. 5332960742) are close enough to more than one way that that's still ambiguous.

I also checked traffic_sign; 360 928 total, 33 411 with direction, 3591 direction=forward, 3608 direction=backward; excluding forward/backward for those (leaving 26 212) would certainly be desirable.

For comparison, the counts of nodes for the current layers are:

• tourism=viewpoint (123 009 total, 3297 with direction)
• amenity=bench (843 527 total, 6670 with direction)
• amenity=hunting_stand (103 487 total, 13 with direction)
• natural=cave_entrance (29 267 total, 37 with direction)

I did not evaluate ways, although all but man_made=cross and traffic_sign appear to qualify for such. There were some others, natural=saddle / amenity=table / man_made=street_cabinet, that I did not evaluate.
