I have a body of JS code that expects this consistency between o.p and o["p"]. Is this an oversight or is it a known limitation of the Nashorn compatibility?
It's an oversight and will be fixed in rc6.
I think mapping getters and setters to JS properties is a great feature and it puzzles me that it's only available under the Nashorn compatibility flag.
We decided to be conservative with this feature for the time being.
(1) there's possible ambiguity: runtime
may map to either getRuntime()
, isRuntime()
, or a field. (2) other languages might not expect to have getters/setters exposed as properties this way and we try to be consistent across our GraalVM languages.
We might revisit this decision in the future however.
