backyard-chickens's Introduction

Backyard Chickens (AKA CanIHazChickenz)

The purpose of this project is to better communicate chicken regulations by municipality to the people of Saint Louis and Saint Louis County based on local municipality zoning regulations.

backyard-chickens's Issues

Add details to readme.md

The main readme page doesn't give any clues as to what this project is about, or how to get working with it.

STL City logic prompt

Prompt for size of coup and fence does not activate anymore when you select a property in Saint Louis City. Edit main.js to trigger when Saint Louis city is the address.

Navigation: "About", "Resources", "Gallery"

There are three links at the top:

What's our plan for the content of each? If we don't have content for any of them, we could remove that one temporarily until we have content to fill.

retro fit application to work with mapbox

api key needed to get mapbox api integration up and running. Not sure if we can just use their geocoding service or if we have to start from scratch with the map.

Convert data to JSON

Right now the raw data is in a "javascript" file - defining variables in-line etc. In the spirit of "Open Data", we should convert this to a JSON file so that others can use the raw data if they'd like, and then in our application load the JSON into Javascript variables dynamically.

Generalize

Idea to generalize the site to also answer other questions other than "can i have chickens"

like:

  • can i have a pool?
  • can i have a shed?
  • can i have solar panels?
    (these are all zoning/building regulations)

404 links now that app was moved to root

@dacresni

The Contribute button/link from the openstl.org site points to the app subdir, so it is broken:

Then I googled for the project name and found the github project page, but the github project link is also broken:

Finally I looked around and realized to take the /app off of it to get to the right place. BTW, searching google for 'stl backyard chickens', it's sadly not in the first page of results, but there is a backyardchickens.com which shows up...

Geographical Specificity

Right now our data is at the municipality level. It would be nice to have the ability to search more specifically. For example some cities may allow chickens only in single-family residences.
