Openshot (2.0.5) Beta 2 won't start on Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit

After today upgrade on Ubuntu 15.10 (64bit) using PPA, Openshot stopped working.
Launching from terminal I see some error on module import

Beta1 started without problems, so the problem appeared after beta2 update

Animated title does not like newline character

Seems like filling in a newline character isn't well received by the python script.
I tried entering

"Title with
new line"
..and got the following.

Seems like this applies to every animated effect with a multiline text editor.

Openshot jerky play back from time line.

When paying the preview from the time line the play back is really jerky and slow. Even worst when entering a transition phase etc.

My system is a Core i3 with 4 G of RAM. No problem with other video editors, including Openshot 1.4.

Can I do something to provide more feedback for the issue?

Support for a <encoderargs> in presets (let experts tweak to achieve better quality output)

Presets passthru arguments that basicly adds alot of stuff like crf support

Not possible to paste anywhere on the bare timeline

Copying a clip or title is fully possible but it's only possible to paste whilst right-clicking on another clip or title since the context menu does not appear when only the bare timeline is right-clicked directly.

It would be very nice to simply right-click exactly where one wants the copied clip to be pasted.

Wish: Animated title should allow shorter duration

250 frames may be far too long.
I suggest having 0.1, 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x as multipliers in addition to the 1x, 2x, 3x etc multipliers or alternatively allow inputting seconds and simply adjust the multiplier accordingly behind the scenes.

Windows: not the project is automatically saved

In the version 14 openshot in Might save preferences automaitcamente 1 min each project or each time you gave the play the video. If there is an error erros the project is not saved. In the Windows version it is not possible to put the option to automatically save.

Can't launch openshot after changing regional settings

Hi.

I changed my regional settings from Norwegian (which has , (comma) as a decimal separator) to American English (which has . (period) as a decimal separator).

This resulted in the inability to launch OpenShot except by removing ~/.openshot_qt as adviced.
Seems like there is something that depends on regional settings inside .openshot_qt

Open Project and Import Files dialog click to open only?

The Open Project and Import Files dialog seems to only support click to open/select folder/files? Can I enable click to select folder/file and double click to open?

Titles can not be edited directly from OpenShot

I do not know if this is how it's supposed to be but I can not open the title for editing - neither in Inkscape, nor in the OpenShot title editor.

Quite boo-hoo when you accidentally leave a typo in or just want to make som small adjustment. I do assume it would be possible to simply locate the title.svg on disk and edit it in Inkscape - it would just be so much smoother to Right-click --> Edit in Inkscape or similar directly on the title on the OpenShot timeline or Project Files pane.

autosave missing in action

the autosave options seem to be missing and please turn it on by default

Minor issue with clip thumbnail generation.

When spliting a clip the thumbnail for the new clip is wrong. It keeps the first frame of the clip, before the split.

Here is a new splash screen or website banner what ever you want to use for.

ImportError: No module named 'openshot'

Openshot doesn't prompt to save changes in current project when opening or loading a new one

The current project simply disappears and the new project appears, whether I'm creating a brand new one or simply loading a previously saved project.

Would be very nice with a prompt to save similar to when quitting OpenShot without saving.

Title editor shortcut (Ctrl+T) does not work...

Alpha value 0.00 displays as fully opaque

Unless I'm wrong, an alpha value of 1.00 is fully opaque and an alpha value of 0.00 is fully transparent. At least this applies to the alpha channel in PNGs.

After importing 8 pictures on the timeline and using the "Add to timeline" dialog (which works very well btw), I set the Fade to "Fade In & Out" and hit OK.

This correctly created the slideshow with proper transitions, zooming and fading but when I selected a single image on the timeline and had a look at the Alpha in Properties it looked a bit odd.
The image is fully visible when alpha is 0.00 and fully transparent when alpha is 1.00 while I would have thought it should be the exact opposite way.

Upon quiting, Opeshot 2.0 doesn't ask to save an unsaved project.

If someone starts Openshot 2.0.4 and start working, if accidentally press the close button, Openshot just quits. No question or warning for unsaved project.

Tested on Arch Linux with bzr version 511.

windows: the project name does not appear anywhere when de programa is full screen

Cuando guardas un proyecto no se visualizad en ningun lugar el nombre de dicho proyecto.

Menu: File --> Recent Projects contains a list of your (Jonathan) recent projects

It does not bother me the least but I'd just like for you to know about this.

And BTW, there's no error message when I try to load any of the non-existing project files.

Chosing color animated title crash

Hello,
Thanks for al lthe work you are doing on this video editor! Its quite impressive!
Ok, so im running an up to date version of Arch, and when i go to make a animated title, then try to change a color in any of the animated tiles, openshot crashes with:

Unhandled Python exception
Aborted (core dumped)

Missing key for removing clip from timeline

I'm constantly missing using backspace or delete key for deleting clips from the timeline. Right-click --> Remove clip is reasonable of course but it's still too cumbersome and I do really expect for something like the delete-key to work.

Animated title does not play back after being generated and put on the timeline

The frames are all rendered and present in the folder but it seems OpenShot simply doesn't have the counter right. Files are really TitleFileName0001.png through TitleFileName250.png in the folder.

Wish: Enable toggling of track visibility

It's great to toggle one or more track invisible like in OpenShot 1.x. It allows for much faster playback during project authoring and when testing various effects that only apply to one track.

Cannot create info.THUMBNAIL_PATH. File already exists

As shown in the screenshot below, this happened the second time I tried to launch openshot.

Windows 10 Home 64 bit. 8 gigs ram. Intel i7. Let me know if I can provide any more info.

Animate no longer present in 2.0

In 1.4.3, I could right-click on an image in the timeline and choose Right to Left, Top to Bottom, etc.

In 2.0, no Animate menu appears when right-clicking.

Is the feature not yet implemented in 2.0--or is it simply not yet an option in libopenshot 0.0.5?

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS: Title font dialog always resets to Ubuntu Medium 11 px font

Although the title editor (Ctrl+T) does appear and allow adding a title, it does not seem possible to modify the title font at all.

The title font dialog opens as expected but no matter what properties I set in the font editor, the title font is not affected.

I am running Ubuntu 15.10 and have installed openshot-qt from the libopenshot-daily ppa.

Workaround:
The first line of launch-openshot is #!/usr/bin/python3.5, the python module however is installed in /usr/lib/python3.4/dist-packages.
When I change launch-openshot to use python3.4, the module is found and openshot launches.

Increasing the duration of an image clip

Is there a technical reason for not allowing pictures to be longer on the timeline than 5 minutes (300 seconds)?

If not, could it please be increased?

I'd very much like to use openshot in order to create videos to accompany recordings, which are by their nature pretty light on the visual side, and it's not unusual to have a static image as background for more than 5 minutes.

OpenShot really doesn't like scaling down (big) images during preview playback

My recent MacBook Pro starts huffing and puffing quite a bit when trying to play back even a single 2000x3000px image without any effects, transitions or similar. Now, OpenShot even seems to have hung while playing back this single image.

Incidentally, nice images for any use (CC0) are readily available at http://www.unsplash.com

Smaller images and videos work a lot better.

Internationalization improvements

Hello,

May it be possible to avoid series of strings like "Cross 1", "Cross 2", ... which are very laborious to translate, and replace them by a single string like "Cross %d" or "Cross {}". This would greatly assist translators in their work.

live sound and live video recording support to OpenShot

Could there be live sound and live video support to OpenShot one day?

I don't know if this is being worked on or not but live sound support would be good to have in Openshot, ie a audio mixer window. The mixer should all so have jack audio support.The Openshot audio tracks could all so use a record button on them.
At the bottom of the Mixer could have a sound input menu on every audio track this way a user can hook up a hardware mixer to a Openshot audio track and record the sound form their hardware mixer without a DAW software. The Openshot mixer's faders and pan knob should be able to read & write volume and pan automation on the track. A the top of the mixer there should be a output menu on every audio track this way a user can hook up a audio output from the Openshot mixer out to a jack audio input. The Jack Audio support is so a user can send the sound from the users DAW software into Openshot an audio tracks or send the sound from Openshot an audio tracks to the users DAW .

live video support
Openshot video tracks need a record button on them.and a Camera recording window where a user can find Camera recording options, like Camera record, Multi Camera record and Multi Camera sync and Multi Camera record monitoring.

Holding Shift, Ctrl or Command for selecting/deselecting clips?

Dragging a marquee / select rectangle to select clips works just fine in many cases but for finer control amongst lots of clips it's quite fiddly.

Example: There are 5 clips inside the select rectangle but I only want to move 4 of them. Solution: I have to select and move the clips in at least 2-3 iterations to avoid moving my unwanted clip with them.

Keyframes tab does not show anything

There's just a dark, empty pane no matter what kind of clip is selected. Adding any kind of animation (zoom in/out etc) or fade does not change anything.

Maybe keyframes isn't ready for use and if so, I'd suggest removing it until a later version to avoid confusion.

The animations themselves do work very nicely, though :)

Can't return from Fullscreen. F11 does not work.

And there's no visible menu bar in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
I was able to use the Alt command interface to type and select "Exit Fullscreen" to enter windowed view again.
