openhab-qnap-qpkg's Introduction

openhab-qnap-qpkg

openHAB Packages for QNAP NAS systems

Requirements

  • QTS firmware version minimum 4.1.0
  • At least Java 1.8.101 is required
  • The running service needs after installation about 200MB of System Memory. When adding bindings like Z-Wave, the amount of RAM used can rise above 1GB. If QTS does swapping, you could experience speed problems if you have too less RAM.

How to install

  1. Download the QPKG from the releases section over on GitHub.

  2. Create a directory for your addons, configurations and userdata, by either

    • Creating a share called "openHAB" (recommended)
    • Creating a folder called "openHAB" inside the "Public" share
    • Not creating any of them and therefore using .qpkg/openHAB/distribution for all data (for testing or demonstration)
  3. Go to your NAS's App Center and make sure you have got "JRE" (for x86-CPU based NAS) or "JRE_ARM" (for ARM-CPU based NAS) installed. If that is not the case, go to the "Developer-Tools" section of the App Center, install the appropriate version and wait for a while until the Java installation has finished.

  4. Open the "Install manually" dialog in the App Center by clicking the gear-wheel on the upper-right corner of the App Center and choose the qpkg you have downloaded.

    AppCenter choose

  5. Confirm the installation

    AppCenter confirm

  6. Wait while the package is being installed

  7. When finished just close the dialog and wait for a while until openHAB has completely started. This may take several minutes.

    AppCenter finished

  8. Access openHAB via "http://NAS_IP_or_DNS_address:8090". If the interface does not start, retry after another minute. The initial startup takes some time.

How to uninstall

If you want to keep configuration files, copy them to a save place outside of the openhab-path.

  1. Go to the "App Center" and remove the app like any other.
  2. Additionally if wanted or needed, please remove the folders "addons", "conf" and "userdata" from the your directory, eg. "openHAB" share or "Public"/openHAB" If you have installed openHAB2 to .qpkg (see "How to install", third option) then all files get removed automatically.

openhab-qnap-qpkg's Issues

Openhab does not listen on port 8090

I started openhab via the app center and it said it would run but opening it on 8090 did not result in any response.

I then killed it (btw I then found that the KARAF instance still had the PID set in the instance.properties file which I had to remove first).

I then started "openhab.sh console" manually in the shell and it stays there (as it starts the jvm).
Again, no response from port 8090.
I checked netstat -a | grep 8090 and it reveals nothing (which confirms the fact that the application is not listening on 8090)

I checked the command line and it says:
/usr/local/jre/bin/java -Dopenhab.home=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution -Dopenhab.conf=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/conf -Dopenhab.runtime=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime -Dopenhab.userdata=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/userdata -Dopenhab.logdir=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/userdata/logs -Dfelix.cm.dir=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/userdata/config -Dorg.osgi.service.http.port=8090 -Dorg.osgi.service.http.port.secure=8444 -Djava.awt.headless=true -Djava.endorsed.dirs=/usr/local/jre/jre/lib/endorsed:/usr/local/jre/lib/endorsed:/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime/lib/endorsed -Djava.ext.dirs=/usr/local/jre/jre/lib/ext:/usr/local/jre/lib/ext:/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime/lib/ext -Dkaraf.instances=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime/instances -Dkaraf.home=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime -Dkaraf.base=/share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/userdata -Dkaraf.data

From what I understood, it then calls the start.sh in the distribution directory and this in turns calls karaf which I can confirm with ps -ef

/bin/bash /share/MD0_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime/bin/karaf

I then patched the openhab.sh to use start_debug.sh of karaf but it does not reveal more information except
"Listening for transport dt_socket at address 5005"

Any idea how to further analyze and track down the problem?

cheers
Stefan

Update process

HI guys,

is it necessary for the upgrade/update process to remove the openHAB qnap app and also delete the usersdata folder before installing a new version? Is there no easier way?

Kind regards

Update to 2.4

Hi,

There is anyway to update to the new version 2.4 ?

Could not install beta 4

Error 2016/09/24 20:34:57 System 127.0.0.1 localhost openHAB 2.0.0-b4-1 installation failed. Data file error.

btw I can install b3 without any problems

(TS-451+ (QTS 4.2.2))

Brand new installation : fail to start

I've installed in my TS 119 P+ the new OPENHAB 2.2 after downloaded JRE for ARM and created new shared directory OPENHAB . The APP opens but when I've tried to launch standard (it doesn't change with other options) installation the message "Cannot connect to the server" appears.
The folder OPENHAB has been fulfill with the subdirectories as reported in the instructions after the APP installation .

Could I miss something before installation ?

Thanks for help

Make required firmware clear

Thanks for a great initiative. What is not clear is which QNAP firmware is required, proposal to add this to the readme file.

Issue with Plex Media Server

HI,
every time I install Plex or a Plex update OpenHab is not working anymore after a restart. Is there a solution?

Classic UI on QNAP not working

hi all, my classic UI is not working at all. Any idea why ? I believe it has something to do with my share and folder structure. my share is called "openHAB" and all folders from the installation are in there. The folder "openHAB2" recommended by the documentation is empty.

I believe the demo.sitemap is search in a wrong folder.

What did I wrong ?

Java not enabled! on 2.2.0-1 after installation

I'm on Firmware 4.3.4.0435 on my TS-451
Since the 2.2.0 Package i get this error message right after the installation finished.
"Java not enabled! Please read the documentation about details. "
I did a clean install and confirmed that all "openHAB" folders where empty or deleted.
The installation of the old 2.1.0 package still works fine, except that it does not use the shared folder as an install path.
I tried to look for logs or anything, but the /userdata consists only of the folders /etc and /tmp nothing more.
Did something about the JRE change in 2.2.0? Or am I missing something big here?
I'm kind of clueless why the 2.1.0 works just fine but the 2.2.0 does not.

2.0.0-3 after reinstal didn't work

Hi, after power failure I remove openhab and install again a 2.0.0-3 version and installation looks good, but qnap didn't response on 8890 port.
I try to start_debug.sh and this is output:

Launching the openHAB runtime...
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/runtime/bin/setenv: line 165: type: java: not found

OpenHAB not working after Firmware update QNAP NAS

Hello,

After updating the firmware of my QNAP TS 253, OpenHAB is not reachable anymore. I tried to solve this by re-installing the package, but the result remains the same.
Has anybody ideas how to solve this ?

Regards,

Marc

Cant find config files for manual editing

As in #7 mentioned @nodecentral and me couldnt finde the cfg files for manula editing some "things".
But as this is starting to get a bit off topic in that mentioned issue i will start a new one.

I looked an dozens of folders the last days.
Is there any Documentation where to find the config files in the qnap file system?

Share folder not working

When installing the openHAB2 on my TS-251+ running software version 4.3.3.0396 Build 20171205, I am creating the share called openHAB2 and the “addons”, “conf” and “userdata” are all still ending up in the "/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/OpenHab/" folder.

I have tried both option 1 and 2 with no luck. Am I missing something? According to the installation link that is all I need to do and the data should automatically go in there. I don't have any users setup, just the admin in the NAS

openHAB_2.0.0-2.qpkg Won't Start After Reinstall

Help.

QNAP TS453 running QTS 4.3.

It was installed and working, but I had followed the readme and created an openHAB2 share, which I learned should have been openHAB after troubleshooting why none of my files were showing up there.

So... I removed the QPKG, created the appropriate openHAB share, then reinstalled the QPKG. It created the folder structure in openHAB, but now it won't start.

The error is: Exception in opening zip file: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/openHAB/distribution/userdata/cache/org.eclipse.osgi/97/0/bundleFile

I checked and there is no org.eclipse.osgi folder at that location.

The full error file is attached.

cannot access /dev/ttyACM0 - permissions issue

I installed the package with no problem, but when trying to use Z-wave with the Gen 5 Z-stick, I installed the cdc-acm.ko driver and see the stick at /dev/ttyACM0, but when I point the Thing to that port, I get
2018-01-13 11:23:58.965 [hingStatusInfoChangedEvent] - 'zwave:serial_zstick:5bec0518' changed from OFFLINE (BRIDGE_OFFLINE): Controller is offline to OFFLINE (COMMUNICATION_ERROR): Serial Error: Port /dev/ttyAMC0 does not exist
The usual explanation / fix for this is permissions, specifically, adding user openhab to group dialout, however, I don't have that group, and when I "ls -l /dev/ttyACM*", I get this:
[misha@homeNAS ~]$ ls -l /dev/ttyACM* crw-rw---- 1 admin administrators 166, 0 2018-01-13 09:57 /dev/ttyACM0

It seems like creating a group dialout wouldn't work, since the system obviously isn't configured to assign tty devices to that group. Just adding user openhab to the administrators group that does seem to own the tty devices didn't work either (and doesn't seem like a good idea). What else should I try?

I'm running 4.3.3 build 20171117, and using the 2.2.0 openhab package.

openhabian-conf

How do I run openhabian-conf when running OH on QNAP? I can get a shell to Karaf, a shell into the QNAP, and see the usual http on 8090, but can't seem to figure out how to run that command.
Thanks
Simon

New Install - Worked momentarily, now can't access web page??

I am unable to get a new install of openHAB to work on my Qnap NAS.

Hardware: QNAP TS-851, firmware 4.3.4.0486

Steps:

  1. Installed Java 8.151.2
  2. Installed openHAB_2.2.0-1.qpkg
  3. Opened Web Interface, began to congifure
  4. Leave web page open, and not use for a while
  5. Come back to configure, web page is no longer responsive, can't get to load.
  6. Restart NAS , uninstall and reinstall qpkg, restart NAS again.
  7. website at port :8090 which originally worked (even if briefly) will no longer load.

Is there anything else I can try to get this working again?

Thanks!

openHAB Cloud service

thank you for the new qpkg!

everything works fine, but the openHAB Cloud service is not connecting, is this working on your installation?
on myopenhab.orgthe the service Shows only offline

on the main page it Shows "You are using openHAB 1.x. To remotely access your openHAB's web Interface"
i made a new installtion with your qpaq on my qnap

Addons folder

Hi,
I have installed openhab on my qnap ts-469l via the qkpg file and now I need to manually install an addon (This) but I'm not able to locate the folder.

Cannot start openHAB after shutdown or stop

I have to delete the distribution/runtime/instances/instance.properties file in order to be able to start openHAB correctly after a NAS shutdown or Stopping openHAB. I am using qpkg 2.0.0-3.

Error in installation guide

I dont know if this is the correct place, but i think i found an error in the installation guide of this page:
http://docs.openhab.org/installation/qnap.html

It says that the shared folder should be called "openHAB2", but in the readme file here on githup it says that the shared folder should be called "openHAB" (without 2). It took my some time to find, but when i installed openhab on my qnap with only a shared folder called "openHAB2" then i couldnt find the configuation files and folders. Then i uninstalled it, and created a shared folder called "openHAB" (so that i had both) and once i reinstalled openhab then the configuations file was created in the shared folder called "openHAB"

OpenHAB listening on wrong subnet

With multiple QNAP vSwitches present (Virtual Station, Container Station, etc.), openHAB is choosing the wrong vSwitch/subnet which impacts discovery/binding scans.

Need a mechanism to define the default subnet (internal LAN range) vs. the internal subnets for things like container station.

timezone is not set

Hi.
I'm from Germany and we have winter time, now. But in OpenHAB there is shown the old summer time. NTP ist working well and my QNAP NAS is working with the correct winter time, too.

I found the solution for this. It is necessary to add the following line to openHAB.sh:
export TZ=/sbin/getcfg System "Time Zone" -f /etc/config/uLinux.conf

It's working fine in my case.

Regards.
Andy

MQTT configuration

Where I can find mqtt.cfg on QNAP devices to set broker IP/username/password?

How to 'upgrade' from b4 version to b5 ?

First of all: Thanks a lot for providing a QNAP distro of OpenHAB! I am happy running it and will continue using it.
I am currently running version 2.0.0.b4 on my QNAP TS212, along with JRE_ARM 8.65.0.
How should I 'upgrade' to version b5 ?
I guess I should not deinstall and run the installation description right from the beginning, in order not to lose my current configuration.

  • will b5 still be happy with JRE_ARM 8.65.0 ?
  • should i simply 'overwrite' the files of the package via SSH ?
    Any hints are appreciated.

Basic UI not updating with changes

I have Openhab 2 v2.2.0-1 release build installed on my Qnap. I have a working sitemap. I have found that the classic UI responds to changes as expected and updates automatically. Basic UI is not behaving the same way, however. In order for it to show the changes, I need to refresh the page.

Inaccuracy in installation description

openHAB2 doesn't use openHAB2 shared folder for addons, configurations and userdata, it using openHAB (without "2"). Please fix this in installation manual. Thank you.

openHAB doesn't start after NAS restart

Hello,

I've installed openHAB 2.0.0-0.
After installation the server is started and available.
But after NAS restart, i get the following error message and openHAB doesn't start:
" Java not found! Please read the documentation about details. "
But Java is still installed.

When i try to start the server manual via SSH and start.sh, i got the following message:
"There is a Root instance already running with name main and pid 25421"

After changing the pid from 25421 to 0 inside "instance.properties" i was able to start the instance but couldn't access to webserver.

Do you have an idea whats going wrong and what shall i do to fix?

Thanks in advance
Jan
