Can you confirm if this extender works on Windows? I've tried active extenders with the official SDK on Win and they don't seem to work. Normal passive ones seem to work both with libfreenect2 and with the Kinect4Win SDK, though.

I am using this extender: http://www.amazon.com/ADNACO-UF1-50-Active-Optical-Cable-length/dp/B00KPG41Y0/ (is this what you call an active extender? what would be a passive one?). I will try to find a windows machine for this test in the meantime.

Yep! That's an active extender. This is the "passive" type of extender I've used with success: http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-A-Male-A-Female-Extension-Cable/dp/B008EQYRRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409153749&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+3.0+extender

3 m is kinda small. Could you chain them?

Thanks.

Hm, I think you can maybe chain two, but not too much more. Definitely bummed on the length myself, so do let me know how the active stuff ends up working in Windows (fingers crossed!).

@eighteight - I just noticed the same issue without any extender. Plugging it in to my iMac I noticed just the adapter showing up and no device.

I unplugged everything and power cycled the device and it showed up in the profiler.

Might be worth seeing if this is the same for you with the extender?

@robotconscience I found a windows desktop, but it turns out I need Windows 8 –– so that's on hold right now.
@ofTheo I was able to get the Adnaco extender to work with the following sequence:

Connect the fiber end to computer
Connect the other end to the accompanying adapter.
Power the adapter in 2. up.
Connect the kinect to the adapter in 2.
Power up the kinect.
Launch the program
Bingo!!!

So, closing this issue.
