oduwsdl.github.io's Issues

Order projects by some method other than alphabetically

The projects look to be ordered alphabetically, which might keep staler projects near the beginning of the alphabet with order precedence. Dynamically arrange them another way, e.g., most recently committed to. This will ensure that the projects that are still in active development within the group are shown near the top and dead projects will be demoted.

Move to using raw .bib files for publications page

https://github.com/oduwsdl/oduwsdl.github.io/blob/master/_bibtexs/ainsworth-a.html is an odd franken-file containing some surfaced metadata and the raw bibtex content embedded in HTML. This produces a large barrier of entry in terms of other WS-DLers submitting new entries via a PR. Can you utilize the native .bib format as raw file then extract the contents as needed by the build system as metadata?

Also, the bibtex field in the entries in the YAML at https://github.com/oduwsdl/oduwsdl.github.io/blob/master/_data/pubs.yml direct to an HTML file.

Some initial feedback from the June 17 deployment

Per the e-mail, here are a few points that I think will help improve the current design.

  • Make navigation visible and not behind a hamburger menu unless on mobile. We have the screen real estate.
  • People page - make a little more information dense. It currently requires a lot of scrolling.
  • Froggie image anti-aliasing (I'll supply a new version)
  • Software bg - how about some of our own code as the background instead of a CC image?
  • Add streams to homepage - inclusive of Twitter, Flickr, and blag RSS. This ought to be done a little more elegantly than the current version on the CS domain.
  • Nav: about, blag, home, people... Home should probably be first or last per convention.
  • Press page - can we skin this?
  • Software page - needs better ordering than alphabetic. I had changed it at one point to use both pinning and sorting by latest checkin - this would emphasize the currency of the projects' last maintenance.
