NStore

(Yet Another) Opinionated Event Sourcing Library

NStore started as a playground for experimenting with .net Standard, async and a simple API for a Sql/NoSql backed EventStore.

After years of experience running NEventStore in production we wrote NStore from scratch with a simpler and extensible API.

Quickstart

Setup the streams factory

var streams = new StreamsFactory(new InMemoryPersistence());

open the stream

var post = streams.Open("post/123");

append new data

await post.AppendAsync(new Favorited("users/200", DateTime.UtcNow));

read the stream

await post.ReadAsync(chunk =>
{
    Console.WriteLine($"{chunk.PartitionId} #{chunk.Index} => {chunk.Payload}");
    return Subscription.Continue;
});

Process the stream

var favs = await post.AggregateAsync<UniqueFavs>();

Console.WriteLine($"{favs.Count} users added '{post.Id}' as favorite");

Learn

The source comes with a Sample App to illustrate some basic stuff you can do.

Status

In production (MongoDB & SqlServer) since 2017 on two major products.

nstore's Issues

Detach aggregate from repository on concurrency error?

Repository works as Identity Map for aggregates (at requested version).
If a concurrency exception is thrown on save the aggregate became stale and the repository will be stale too.

We can detach the stale aggregate before rethrowing so the client can ask again for a fresh version.

Aggregates from deleted Streams & valid Snapshots

Streams are "virtual", it's possible to delete a stream and still have a snapshot around.
To avoid issues we need to load almost one changeset to validate the stream on Repository.GetById.
This is needed again for optimistic concurrency.

Concurrency & Async issues

Enable parallel testing. Has been disabled for AppVeyor build, with concurrency enabled the build hangs.
Stress test parallel testing.

Add init options

Option dictionary for persistence initialization

  • collection name
  • id strategy

Code cleanup & Team review

Check naming, patterns & comment where needed

  • remove todo
  • choose between Async / not suffix
  • check names
  • check method signatures

Allow Append semantic

Allow user to specify null as stream sequence, to allow simple append semantic where the user is not interested in ConcurrencyException

PersistAsync

Return Store Position from IPersistence.PersistAsync?
