airpaint's Issues

Palette import/export

It should be possible to import and export palettes to and from a variety of formats.

  • import/export to PNG. A 16x12 image with the palette's colors in it, one per pixel.
  • import/export to REXPaint's palette format.

Extended fonts

REXPaint allows fonts with > 256 characters in them, arranged into pages. AIRPaint should do the same.

Sync

It should be possible to synchronize data between multiple instances of AIRPaint, as well as to external storage.

In particular, it would be cool to sync all data to Dropbox or Google Drive, especially so to do it in a format that doesn't require AIRPaint to read. It could be possible to save textual data in PNG metadata, and save all AIRPaint files as PNGs. That way previews would work correctly and the files would be 'scannable' in Dropbox/Drive or in Finder, but it would still be loadable as a full AIRPaint file, with colors and layers and everything. It might be a little confusing for people that it's a regular PNG though, and e.g. someone might accidentally edit the PNG with a program that doesn't understand AIRPaint's metadata, and accidentally destroy it. Maybe it would make sense to also store the .xp / .ap files?

Also need to consider two-way sync and conflict resolution.

Support custom fonts

It should be possible to add a custom font to the font list. This implies that it should also be possible to remove a custom font, and probably also that it should be possible to see a list of loaded fonts. Custom fonts should be stored in the local database so they don't need to be re-added every time you launch the app.

Some questions:

Bug when typing text

I typed text, then I pressed Tab. Then I was unable to use airpaint again. The GUI reacts but I cannot draw anymore.

Export to TXT

Add the ability to export to a flattened, uncolored text file.

Multi-layer copy/paste

REXPaint does this, in a slightly awkward fashion. AIRPaint should do it too, though it may be worth thinking about whether we can expose it with a better UI.
