actioncable-chat-example's Issues

Could not find gem 'actioncable

I am Using Rails new Version and also gem 'actioncable', github: 'rails/actioncable' and when i try to bundle install
Could not find gem 'actioncable (>= 0) ruby' in
git://github.com/rails/actioncable.git (at master).
Source does not contain any versions of 'actioncable (>= 0) ruby'

feature creep

I plan on doing the following in my local prototype.
Which of these do you think will add to this example and not just make the code more complicated?

UNKNOWN:

  • add a user object
  • add to user presence
  • add to user metadata like an icon
  • add authentication to user object
    • simple password
    • devise
    • github

YES:

  • add to message a target user for 1-1 chatting. [make this like a channel]
  • add to message a target channel [for multiple rooms]
  • add to ui a second pane with list of users.

NO:

  • add to message a message type. (e.g. tweet, image)
  • add to message meta data. (use postgres hext?)

Server runs fine but messages don't show up without refresh.

Reddis is running on the right port. 6379
./bin/servers are running # I tried it both with cable and rails servers and just ./bin/rails s as since the readme said it was configured to run both.
The log shows the cables being sent without errors. I can connect to reddis fine. It just seems like nothing happens on the page. I tried both safari and chrome. I checked the js console and didn't see any errors.
I followed the instructions exactly and I'm running ruby 2.2.2. Any ideas?๏ปฟ
