mudmap2's Issues

Bug: Prev-button on world tab creates duplicate entries

Clicking the previous position button ('Prev') of a world tab (class WorldTab) adds new entries to the position history if there shouldn't be any previous entries.

Expected result: map should be moved to the position described by the first history entry OR the home position. (I think the latter had been implemented but the former might make more sense to the user). No new entries should be added to the history list.

Suggestion: search comments

It would be useful to be able to search a map file for keywords -- including comments. I feel like this was possible in a previous version, but it no longer seems to be. I record monsters and objects within a room using comments, and it would be very handy to be able to find every location that contains "dragon," for example. Thank you.

Improve usability of path search

  • bug: path search ignores one-way conditions
  • make the marked path more noticeable
  • the marked path gets unmarked too easily by an accidental click on the map

Suggestion: Add World Legend

v2.4.5

  • Under the Export as image dialog, include option to Export World Legend.
    • If selected, the exported image would also include a World Legend, including its Risk Levels and colors.

List dialog for maps

The side bar can be used to create and rename maps but not for removing or ordering. Add a list dialog for adding, removing, changing and ordering maps.

Bug: Export as Image cuts off half of the eastern and southern most places

Settings: Current map, straight paths, transparent, path colors, place groups, position left.
I didn't try other settings to see if I get different results.

The map itself has a place with a path connecting to a place on a different map. I doubt that's related, but including the info just in case.

The world file was originally created under an older version of MUD Map.

Bug:Keyboard Shortcuts and Quickstart Documentation Are Editable

If I open Help -> Keyboard Shortcuts or Help -> Quickstart, the documentation itself appears editable.

I did the following test:

  1. Open documentation window
  2. Edit (add text)
  3. Close documentation window
  4. Open documentation window and view previous edit

I have not tested closing MUD Map itself after making an edit in the documentation window.

Suggestion: Permit self-linking paths

I'm playing through the original Zork right now and making great use of mudmap2, but there are a few locations (most notably in the Maze) where leaving by a certain exit brings you back to the room you started in. For ease of mapping such madness, it would be useful to be able to indicate where such self-loops are without having to create a separate Loop room (my current workaround).

Suggestion: Add Search Functionality

v2.4.5

Initially, just to get something out:

  • Search would search (simple contains match, case insensitive) Name and Comments in the current map.

Ideally:

  • Search dialog would have option for searching Current Map Only or Current World. Searchable fields (Name/Comments/etc) would be includable/excludable maybe via check box.

My Thoughts:

  • I'd say start searching at the currently selected cell (or top left cell if none is selected), searching left to right, then moving down and repeating left to right.
  • For my use, I don't see the need for regex, but I see no reason not to allow it.
  • The Place containing the search match would be Selected and maybe centered.
  • Ctrl+F for Search dialog. F3 for Next Match.

Room background color

I have an idea for an enhancement:
Allow setting the background color for a room.

My use case:
There are certain aspects of the rooms in an area that I want to see at a glance - is there a known mob in the room? Or a known item/chest? Dangerous? Safe? Etc.

I can edit the name of a room to cover 1 aspect, but then I can't tell any of the others just looking at the map - I need to click on a room and look at any comments in there. I'd think setting the background color would let me have a color scheme to cover these aspects.

No custom exits, portals, etc.

I see that you have the standard kind of exits but no custom exits, portals, or a way to indicate that something other then a normal exit could be used to take the players to another room.

Disable default ? at name

Would be nice to be able to display default '?' in room-name.
I have to manually remove all the ? from every room.

greetings

Hello. I've been using MUD Map 2.4.3 for a few days now (it's been awesome, by the way) -- but I recently ran into an issue when trying to open a world file -- here is what it throws back at me when trying to do so. I have other saved world files which open fine, except for this one in particular.

comment

Hi, I am looking for some standard format for our mud maps in our guild. I am glad to see someone is working on such tool. (our 20+ years handwriten maps look a bit outdated :-) )
So, I was wondering if there is any way to display Comment field on tile (something like world settings for room id) . All i see is letters Co when i insert comment but not actual content of it.
I could really use that information , when connecting 2 maps. For example you want to connect ground floor of map (map 1) with 1st floor (map 2) and u want to say those floors are connected via hidden exit "enter statue". At the moment I have to name 1st room of Map 2 "Enter statue" to see "Ch: enter statue" on map1. But i want to use that name for something else :-(
Any chance to add that option or I am missing some existing option for this?

Map import

Hey,

another suggestion. If more people want to work on the same world, it would be good to be able to import/export maps.

Thanks

Add "Expand" Functionality and Context Menu Options

Use attached images as a reference for the scenario below.

If you were working in default.png and realized that you needed to go northeast from place14 to a NEW place that should itself be southwest of place10, you could select place 14 and choose EXPAND EAST, which would give you image post.expandeast.png. If you decided that you just generally wanted to make more room in all directions from place14, you could choose EXPAND ALL (DIRECTIONS), which would give you image post.expandall.png.

The idea is that every cell to the right would be shifted to the right 1 cell, every cell above would be shifted up 1 cell, etc.

Write user documentation / Quick start guide

  • Quick start guide
  • Documentation of all relevant functions
  • Help dialog in MUD Map itself (keyboard shortcuts etc)

Thoughts:

  • In GitHub-Wiki? GitHub-Pages?
  • Add screenshots if possible.

Exception thrown when trying to load a world file

Hi there,
choosing "open" from the file menu throws an exception.

The problem lies in the constructor of WorldFileDefault in the switch statement. Even if an INVALID or UNKNOWN file is detected, the switch case for JSON-files is executed.
Put INVALID, UNKNOWN and default cases to the bottom of the switch to fix this.

Stefan

Feature Request: Allow exits with no connection

Hello! I'd love to be able to add exits that don't connect to another place yet.
Use Case:
As I'm mapping an area and I add a Place for a room that has n/s/e/w exits, and I decide to continue mapping to the north (coming from the south), I'd like to add the exits for e/w even though they don't connect to anything yet so I know to come back and continue mapping.

My current workaround is to use a colored info ring so I know to come back to that Place, but having the exit visible would be ideal.

Thanks!

Textarea

Hey,

first of all this mapper is cool. Fits perfectly for mapping mud-zones.
My suggestion:
I would like to have the possibility to add a textarea somewhere. 1-n.
To place information there. Sometimes you dont want to click in a room to read everything. Sometimes a textarea between the rooms is enough to describe a certain mechanic.

Possible?

Thanks.
MaRk

Suggestion: Text labels on map

Text labels should be freely arrangeable on the map (no grid alignment). Font size and possibly font (what fonts system compatible?). Drag+Drop / Select+Drag+Drop to move labels. Double click to exit a label (like editing places)

Suggestion: Implement File Extension For Worlds

I suggest M2W - I couldn't find an existing extension matching that. It's minor, but allows for possible future capabilities such as simple importing/exporting Maps to/from Worlds. In this scenario, maps might have the M2M extension. Additionally, I'd set my IDE or NP++ up to handle/autoformat M2W as JSON (the existing format).

Create paths by drag+drop

Ctrl+drag from one place to another should open a dialog displaying both places names and drop-down/entry boxes to enter the corresponding exits (as in PathConnectDialog). The path should be shown as a straight line from the first place to the mouse pointer while dragging.

Side bar sizing issues

The sidebar is sometimes too wide when a map window opens, other times it is hidden entirely until the window is resized (see #43 )

Suggestion: Add Map Object/"Place" Within Map

We can link from a Place within a Map to a Place within another Map, which is awesome. But that leaves us essentially looking at a link to nowhere on the graphical representation of the parent/source Map.

The idea here is to be able to place an object that is similar to a Place on the Map that takes up one tile. So on the overview of City C, for instance, you could see one tile representing Dungeon D.

Mouse scroll zoom direction needs to be reversed

The usual UI expectation/standard regarding zooming with mouse scroll is:

  • mouse scroll up zooms in
  • mouse scroll down zooms out

Examples: Google Maps, Firefox (ctrl+scroll), Chrome, OpenStreetMap, basically any map you find on the internet. Having to relearn that just for a mud mapper is really not the way to go IMHO.

Suggestion: Add Group Legend

v2.4.5

  • Under the Export as image dialog, include option to Export Group Legend.
    • If selected, the exported image would also include a Group Legend, including its Names and colors.
    • The Export Group Legend option would also include an option such as "Include only referenced Groups," in which case, only the Groups utilized in the selected view would be included in the Group Legend.

few suggestions

Hi, thanks for fast handling of comment request, it helped a lot. Now i have all for my 1st map :-)
As you asked for some more suggestions, i have some:

  • Possibility to connect tiles with Doted /dashed line for path in order indicate non standard/hidden exit
  • Option to delete map/world - with right click. I didnt figure out how to do delete that and exporting empty map bugs out multimap export for example
  • option for Bold font or color fonts - at least for tile name
  • some kind of border line, default seperation white border so 2 neighbour tiles with colored info ring do not touch each other. For now i just use white colored info , but in some cases i want o have it colored
  • Ability to Hide (same as with ID's) C(commnent) and M in world settings.
  • it would be great to be able to move/copy/cut larger blocks of tiles. For example select more tiles and move them together with connections
  • undo function

Exit by selection is almost off the screen

When I choose to add an exit using Paths and Exits, Connect, then Select, the selection screen is so far to the top left that I can't reach the top bar to move it around, and I can't see the cancel button. Lengthening it will let me see the cancel button, but starting it again goes back to the way it was, and I still can't get to the top.

Path colors

Hello!
I cannot change the default path colors, is that intended?
I am using MacOSX Mojave and Java JDK 12.0.2 64 bit.
All other functions are working correctly.
Is there a File where the colors are stored?
Thanks
BR Markus

Comment Text Area Word Wrap/Height Issues

I noticed during comment creation.

A couple of issues: Open comment dialog, enter text. It will move past the viewable portion of the pane. Then resize the pane (horizontal and/or vertical). The height of the input text area does not resize.

Suggestion: Add Path Legend

v2.4.5

  • Under the Export as image dialog, include option to Export Path Legend.
    • If selected, the exported image would also include a Path Legend, including its Directions and colors.
    • The Export Path Legend option would also include an option such as "Include only referenced Paths," in which case, only the Paths utilized in the selected view would be included in the Path Legend.
