Wayland support in wezterm does work, but there are some combinations of compositor and wezterm versions that have some issues.

There have been recent changes in nightly builds that improve compatibility with more compositors.

The author of #101 does not represent wezterm and is IMO overstepping in suggesting removal.

I am the dev of Clight; it is a tool that manages screen backlight capturing ambient light from:

• webcam
• ambient light sensors

Moreover, it is able to manage keyboard backlight, dimming, dpms and gamma temp.
I think it would be a great addition to the list, given that it supports wayland :)

I gave it a shot since it's on the list, and had major problems. Checking the issues list there are several regarding Wayland and the author specifically says that Wayland support should be disabled.

There are numerous open wayland related issues filed here against wezterm. ....
Unfortunately, the underlying wayland ecosystem crates dramatically changed their APIs (for the better!) which will make that effort essentially a rewrite of wayland support in wezterm. That should happen, but I just can't justify spending so much of my precious downtime on something that I don't use....
In the meantime, what I recommend, if you're dead-set on using a wayland compositor, is using XWayland by setting enable_wayland=false in your wezterm configuration.

I absolutely love this repository, since I am right now building my dream Wayland-based system from (almost) scratch.

I am a command console addict, so I am looking for a wayland-compatible terminal emulator that doesn't need a compositor. Does such a thing exist? I am almost sure I have read something like that... But I can't find it anymore.

I know Weston includes weston-terminal, but that's not what I am looking for: imagine running "foot" without Weston. My idea would be something like a TTY... but on Wayland.

Emacs, in the latest 29.1 version, supports wayland (if compiled witht he pgtk option).
