nationalsecurityagency.github.io's Issues

Design, practices and experience improvements

Hi there,
I came across your site, and I would like to give you some feedback on my user experience:

1. Design

  • #46
  • The Hero's Call To Action doesn't have a distinctive color
  • The background of the hero leaves something to be desired
  • #47

2. Bad practices

  • #41
  • #43
  • You should reduce the size of the dom and put less elements in it by using pagination for example to avoid long loadings which degrade the performances
  • The site doesn't use any caching method, it could be interesting to use a third party like Cloudflare to improve the performance

3. Experience

Accessibility Issue - opacity makes contrast too low

Section 508 is a legal requirement to ensure the accessibility of services offered to the public. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) is a series of checkpoints which ensures that websites are accessible.

The "View Repo" button's contrast is too low. This causes the document to fail an automated accessibility audit:

Screenshot showing a WCAG failure.

This appears to be caused by .usa-hero-callout { opacity: 0.9; }

While the aesthetic effect of seeing the stars behind the text is attractive, it does make the text difficult to read.

Sort repo list and use github api

The repo list could be sorted from the most popular to the least popular because your best projects are not highlighted.

By the way I noticed that all repos.json were written manually which is clearly not ideal because the number of stars, forks, etc. are not updated, and if we used the GitHub api to solve this problem?

Upgrade to USWDS v2

A big upgrade to USWDS v2 could be a huge improvement too!

For a US government site it would be interesting to have a design more in line with 2023, especially since it is a "code" site
