tcd-past-papers's Introduction

TCD Past Papers Build Status PRs Welcome

A Website for students at Trinity College Dublin to more easily navigate the past examination papers.

It is currently live at: https://trinityexampapers.com

Overview

The idea for this project is to mimic what has already been done for Computer Science students with this project that you can see here, for students of every faculty of the college.

How it works

Trinity College's past papers are organised questionably here.

The past paper links have been scraped into a json with this repo's src files.

The site is being hosted on Firebase and the past paper links are in a JSON file in a NoSQL (๐Ÿ˜ฌ) server there.

Users select the modules they study and cookies store this information in their browser.

When users view the homepage, the links for their past papers in their modules show up for them.

Where are we at?

The site is currently live and has active users.

There is more to be done in terms of UI and Usability. (See Issues)

Thanks

Shout out to Tiarnan McGrath who helped me out a lot even though he'd be able to do it a lot better himself.

tcd-past-papers's Issues

Make Download Feature.

Users should be able to download the past papers of all of their modules so that they can access them offline. The downloaded papers should be in a pdf format, indexed in an appropriate manner in folders within a folder for all the modules.

Get rid of hardcoded html.

The modules page displays the names of the courses using hardcoded html. The names of the courses should instead be taken from the database and shown when retrieved.

Page indexing

When users return to the modules.html, they should return to the course/year they were at before rather than the root of the page. This could be done by appending to the URL when changing section of the page.

Re-write 'About' page.

The about page needs to explain to students why certain modules aren't where they expect them to be, why some years will be missing from some modules etc. As well as introducing them to what the website is and how to use it. There is the possibility that this would work better as an about page & a FAQ page.

Cookie Consent Pop-Up

There needs to be a Cookie consent pop-up so that users know that the site will store cookies in their browser.

CL1005 has two 2015s.

Is this supposed to be for two modules, or is it two papers for the same module that year?

moduleID moduleName element.

When you search 'h' in the search bar, a module with no name is suggested from the database. This must be an incorrect entry in the database.

Old Module names

The names of a module are the oldest module name for that specific module code, rather than the newest module name for that module code.
