Victory Conditions Overhaul mod for Total War: Warhammer III.

Introduction

Victory Conditions Overhaul introduces a major rework of the default victory conditions. It rejects the classic idea of short and long campaigns and proposes a new concept based on completing routes. A route is a campaign on its own, customly tailored for each faction and lord, and completing it will be enough to achieve a victory and unlock the achievements.

All factions have three routes available, each one with a tone. They are mean to be short and completed around 50-70 turns. You can start anywhere, but you do not have to stop there: we consider completing one route equals a Short Victory, completing two equals a Long one, and you already got it with the Ultimate. Furthermore, compelting a route will reward you with tailored and loreful benefits that will help you keep the campaign ongoing.

New Features

Victory Conditions Overhaul 5 does not only introduce new routes for Immortal Empires, but also long-time requested features. This includes, but is is not limited, to the following:

  • Unification between the framework and the main mod: You will not need two mods anymore. In the close future the rest of the submods will be merged into this one.
  • Native support for Multiplayer. Yes, finally you will be able to play your customly tailored multiplayer campaigns.
  • Collaboration with Legendary Lore. Now, completing certain evens will trigger small bits of lore. Custom rewards and missions also include some text to make them feel loreful.
  • Custom tailored rewards after completing a route. You secured a trade route? Your economy is boosted. You unfied your empire? Your citizens are happier. You honored your gods? They will help you back.
  • The mod still works as a framework. Feel free to create submods or your own custom routes!

How to use

As a user

Subscribe and enjoy.

As a developer

To create a submod you have to create a .pack file composed by two things: the framework loader and the victory conditions. First of all, you have to decide a name for your mod. This name does not have the be the same that the one you use in the .pack file or the Steam Workshop, but has to be consistent along the mod. In this guide, we are going to call it your-mod-name.

The framework loader

Once decided, you have to create a script named <your-mod-name>.lua and place it in the script/campaign/mod/ folder. The content of that script has to be the following one:

local vco = core:get_static_object("vco");

cm:add_first_tick_callback(function() vco:trigger_custom_missions("<your-mod-name>") end);

The factions folders

Then, you have to create the folder src/script/<your-mod-name> and place there a folder for each faction you want to mod. Inside that folder, create one new folder for each campaign you want to cover. The name has to be the campaign key. An example of this would be main_warhammer or wh3_main_chaos.

Now, next folder name has to be the key of the faction, which can be checked in the table factions, available at Dave. For example, the folder name for The Golden Order has to be wh2_dlc13_emp_golden_order. Finally, inside of it, you have to create a missions.lua file where all the victory conditions are going to be placed.

All in all, to add new victory conditions to The Golder Order Immortal Empires campaign, you have to create these files:

  • script/campaign/mod/<your-mod-name>.lua
  • script/<your-mod-name>/main_warhammer/wh2_dlc13_emp_golden_order/missions.lua

The objectives script

Now, inside of each missions.lua, you have to export a list of missions, which is an array of strings in the default victory_objectives.txt format. Here goes one simple example:

local missions = {
	[[
 		mission
		{
			victory_type vco_victory_type_alternative_2_threat_elimination;
			key wh_main_short_victory;
			issuer CLAN_ELDERS;
			primary_objectives_and_payload
			{
				objective
				{
					type CONTROL_N_PROVINCES_INCLUDING;
					total 2;
					override_text mission_text_text_wh_main_objective_override_empire_sylvania;

					province wh_main_eastern_sylvania;
					province wh_main_western_sylvania;
				}

				objective
				{
					type DESTROY_FACTION;

					faction wh_main_vmp_vampire_counts;
					faction wh_main_vmp_schwartzhafen;

					confederation_valid;
				}

				payload
				{
					game_victory;
				}
			}
		}
	]]
};

return missions;

As the missions interfaces are changing constantly, as I keep adding new options. You can find the list in this framework under the path src/db/victory_types_tables/vco. It is important to understand that only one type of each can be available at the same time per faction, so, if you own multiple submods that add, for example, a Long Victory condition, one is going to override the other.

Objective ideas:

  • https://tw-modding.com/index.php/Missions/Victory_Conditions#HAVE_AT_LEAST_X_OF_A_POOLED_RESOURCE
    • Could be used to require 5 schemes
    • Could be used to require maximising a clan reputation
  • https://tw-modding.com/index.php/Missions/Victory_Conditions#PERFORM_RITUAL
    • Could be used to require the final eshin action - destroy a faction leader - to be performed
  • CA scripting: search for cm:complete_scripted_mission_objective(snikch_faction_key, to see listener + function for perform N eshin actions
  • Destroy faction: wh3_main_cth_the_northern_provinces
    • TBD
  • Destroy faction: wh3_main_vmp_caravan_of_blue_roses
    • To the south-west dead things stumble over dry leaves, rustling as they pass. "Led by Ghorst himself" said the council, in tones low and fearful. "Fear-worry not," Sneek offered, "we'll visit-stop zombie man-thing soon..."
  • Destroy faction: wh3_main_nur_poxmakers_of_nurgle
    • "Strong-powerful it was, great-large daemon from beyond! Paid us quite handsomely to terror-kill fat plague-man it did, and so-so we will!"
      • Talismans: wh3_main_anc_talisman_the_bloody_shackle, wh2_main_anc_talisman_deathmask, wh2_main_anc_talisman_the_black_amulet
      • Enchanted items: wh2_main_anc_enchanted_item_skavenbrew, wh_main_anc_enchanted_item_chalice_of_chaos
  • Control province: wh3_main_combi_province_forests_of_the_moon
    • The forests of the moon are densely covered, sparsely traveled, and poorly lit. Clan Eshin's assassins found it both peaceful and perfect.... Until unintelligent, lumbering greenskins stumbled in and set up makeshift accommodations in what few settlements exist here... Sneak in and separate heads from shoulders.
  • Expand under-empire
    • Eshin Assassins trawl the Old World in search for even the flightiest targets. They set up secret dens in many locations that can only be found by fellow Eshin agents. These hidden dens contain lethal poisons, blood-soaked murder weapons, trophies ranging from scalps to priceless ornaments, and missives for the next agents to pass through.
    • Needs scripting - use ForeignSlotBuildingCompleteEvent (could copy almost all of N'Kari's script for this, see vco-listeners-sla.lua)

Payload ideas:

  • wh2_dlc14_effect_ability_enable_tzarkan_snikch - After killing Malus... Explain it some other way?

Route ideas:

  • Service Of The Grand Nightlord

  • Assassin

    • Defeat Character in Battle: Ku'gath Plaguefather
      • "Strong-powerful it was, great-large daemon from beyond! Paid us quite handsomely to terror-kill fat plague-man it did, and so-so we will!"
    • Defeat Character in Battle: Belegar Ironhammer
      • Ironhammer's attention is solely focused on Karak Eight Peaks, currently inhabited by filthy Greenskins. Now is the the time to strike, when he and his ever-present ancestors are distracted. Slay the Dwarf, and the Council will ensure the Goblins pay their dues.
    • Defeat Character in Battle: Malus Darkblade
      • A mysterious evil lies just beneath the taught skin of Malus Darkblade, tainted-foul and powerful. Put Darkblade in mortal danger and he'll let it loose, then slay it.
  • Keep Your Enemies Close

  • The forests of the moon are densely covered, sparsely traveled, and poorly lit. Clan Eshin's assassins found it both peaceful and perfect.... Until unintelligent, lumbering greenskins ruined the tranquility. Sneak in and separate heads from shoulders. Once the forests are clean turn your attention to the Cathayan settlements to the North - their rangings into the forest grow ever more frequent... And ever more undesirable.

    • Control province: wh3_main_combi_province_forests_of_the_moon
    • Defeat Factions:
      • Celestial Loyalists
      • The Northern Provinces

TMB - Followers of Nagash

Tomb Kings

ARKHAN: Followers of Nagash

  • Route I - Thy Kingdom Come

    • Arkhan has feigned obedience to Settra for long enough. The time has come to march out and retake the ancient lands of his master, the Great Necromancer Nagash.
    • Occupy at least 6 provinces:
      • Land of Assassins, Coast of Araby, Great Desert of Araby, The Cracked Land, Great Mortis Delta, Land of the Dead, Shifting Sands, Land of the Dervishes
    • Destroy faction:
      • Khemri
    • Reward:
      • Thy Will Be Done: Recruitment rank +4, Unit capacity: %+4\nTomb Guard\nTomb Guard (Halberds)\nSkeleton Chariot\nSkeleton Archer Chariot
        Reward flavour text: Arkhan journeys across the dunes, enslaving Tomb Kings from every dynasty and binding their legions to his will. Those who resist are destroyed utterly - their powdered bones lost to the sands of time forevermore.
  • Route II - Born to Serve

    • The vampires did not drink from the Elixir of Life as Arkhan did, but from a lesser, corrupted version that cursed them with unlife. They are forever bound to the will of Nagash, and as his foremost servant, Arkhan can command them just as easily.
    • Occupy at least 4 settlements:
      • Galleon's Graveyard, The Awakening, Lahmia, Castle Drakenhof, Silver Pinnacle, Blackstone Post, Haunted Forest
    • Reward:
      • Know Your Place: Vampire Count and Vampire Coast allegiance +100%, Vampiric corruption +5 (factionwide), Vampiric corruption adjacent provinces +5 (factionwide)
        Reward flavour text: These bloodthirsty creatures will make fine foot soldiers in the wars to come. Let their blight curse the lands.
  • Route III - Faithful Servant

    • The portents are troubled. Daemons roam the earth. Ancient empires crumble before the coming of Chaos. Preparations must be made for the Great Necromancer's return.
    • Occupy settlements:
      • Black Tower of Arkhan, Black Pyramid, Nagashizzar
    • Collect all Books of Nagash
    • Reward:
      • Mortarch of Sacrament: Army capacity +3, Lord + hero recruit rank +5, Rite cooldown reduction -25%
        Reward flavour text: Foremost of the Dark Lords, Arkhan heralds in a new age of death and despair.

CST - Pirates of Sartosa

Aranessa Saltspite: Pirates of Sartosa

  • Route I - Captain of the Swordfysh

    • Commander of the Swordfysh, a mighty galleon crewed by hundreds, Aranessa and her crew prefer boarding actions to thundering broadsides. The ship roves the Tilean Sea and beyond, raiding and pillaging all who cross its path. Make them all fear the crossed tridents upon its sails.
      • Accrue 20000 fame
      • Earn 15000 from raiding
    • The Pirate Queen: (tech_cst_command_00.png)
      • Income from Pirate Coves +25%
      • Movement range after winning a battle +25%
    • Do you know what she, the queen of the pirates, did when the treasure she had always searched for was placed before her very eyes? She laughed.
  • Route II - Daughter of Manann

    • Rumour has it that saltwater flows through her veins instead of blood. That she rose fully grown from the waves in a froth of gore. The truth, unknown to most, is not so magnificent - Aranessa was born a mutant in Skjold and thrown into the sea by her own Norscan tribe. Her crews and victims alike believe Manann, Lord of the Seas, watches over her, and the seas rage as the Swordfysh sails into the wealthiest ports.
      • Raze/Sack 8 settlements from:
        • region wh3_main_combi_region_myrmidens;
          region wh3_main_combi_region_bordeleaux;

          region wh3_main_combi_region_naggarond;
          region wh3_main_combi_region_fortress_of_the_damned;
      • Build Landmark:
        • Dragon Tooth Lighthouse
    • Lady of the Seas: (tech_cst_blockading_the_vampire_coast.png)
      • +2500 fame
      • +12 melee attack for all units whilst at sea
      • +12 leadership for all units whilst at sea
    • Manann is said to be mighty, called the Summoner of Storms, and Master of Maelstroms.... But no-one ever said he pays the crews wages. For that, you need plunder - and lots of it!
    • Manann Provides
      • 50% upkeep reduction for all Rotting Leviathans and Rotting Prometheans
    • Many a sea beast has died at sea, their corpses sinking gracefully to the sea bed. Aranessa's vampire first mate is all too happy to raise those corpses as fodder for her beloved captain.
  • Route III - Dead Man's Vengeance

    • "You'll have your vengeance, Jaego. I'll see it done."
      • Destroy factions:
        • The Dreadfleet
      • Raze/Sack settlements:
        • Galleon's Graveyard
    • Sank the Bloody Reaver: (tech_cst_command_03.png)
      • +2500 fame
      • +20% missile strength for zombie pirate units
    • Minds filled with vengeance, eyes filled with hatred, hearts filled with satisfaction... The sacking of Sartosa has been repaid tenfold, and the undead of Count Noctilus, once Nyklaus Von Carstein, lie still again.
    • Master of the Colossi (tech_cst_firearms_06.png)
      • Recruitment duration -1 for Necrofex Colossus
      • Upkeep -33% for Necrofex Colossus
    • The seas are a better place without the Dreadfleet and its ferocious captain, but his mastery of the Necrofex Colossi was impressive. Such knowledge should not sink beneath the waves.

HEF - Eataine

High Elves

Tyrion - Eataine

  • Route I - Defender of Ulthuan

    • Prince Tyrion is the Defender of Ulthuan and the protector of its people, a heavy burden entrusted to him by the Phoenix King Finubar. Among the Dark Elves of Naggaroth he is known as the Reaper, to the Goblins of Red-Axe Pass he is Orcbane, and to the north the Norse know him as Mankiller. For two centuries he has stood between the Elves of Ulthuan and their many foes as an unbreakable shield against the darkness.
    • Destroy factions:
      • Seducers of Slaanesh, The Dreadfleet, Broken Axe, The Drowned
    • Reward:
      • The Best Defence is a Good Offence: Income from Ports: +50%, +10 Leadership (factionwide)
        Reward flavour text: Not since the Age of Colonisation have the Elves known such prosperity.
        icon_ritual_currency_hef_bundle.png
  • Route II - All's Fair in Love and War

    • Malekith's ruinous ambitions have brought death and destruction to Ulthuan for centuries. Elf has fought against elf for far too long. The civil war must end.
    • Destroy factions:
      • Naggarond
    • Tyrion concerns himself only with the twin duties of protecting Ulthuan and its Everqueen, the beloved Alarielle. However, the latter is seen less as a duty than it is a calling of the heart - it is common knowledge that Tyrion is Alarielle's consort, and has been for many years.
    • Occupy settlement:
      • Lothern, Gaean Vale
    • Build Landmark:
      • Court of the Phoenix King
    • Reward:
      • Dawn of a New Age: All remaining Dark Elf factions suffer -10 control, Recruitment duration: -1 turn for all units (minimum 1), Recruit rank: +3 for all units
        Reward flavour text: With the Witch King's demise, revolts have broken out across Naggaroth. Thousands of slaves and druchii defectors flee the Black Cities, and some even flock to your banner.
        dlc10_assassination_targets.png
      • The Everchild: Influence per turn: +10, Corruption -2
        Reward flavour text: Ostensibly the progeny of the Everqueen and the Phoenix King, some whisper that the pedigree of Aliathra is less than certain...
        dlc10_power_of_nature.png
  • Route III - The Fate of the Soul

    • The fate of Tyrion's soul teeters on a blade-edge. Will he succumb to Aenarion's curse and salve his people's wounded pride with the blood of old enemies, or will he put aside these grievances and reforge old alliances that will stand together against the forces of Chaos?
    • Occupy settlements:
      • Shrine of Khaine, Karaz-a-Karak, The Oak of Ages
    • Reward:
      • Reunification: All Wood Elf Legendary Lords become vassals. +100% tribute from vassals.
        Reward flavour text: After centuries of isolation, the Asrai now answer to the Phoenix Court.
        worldroots_health.png
      • The Original Phoenix Crown: All Dwarf Legendary Lords become vassals. +100% Allegiance points gained for all races.
        Reward flavour text: Tyrion has reclaimed the original Phoenix Crown, which was once stolen by the Dwarf King Gotrek Starbreaker at the Battle of the Three Towers. This aching wound to High Elf pride can finally heal.

    • The so-called "Everchosen" presumptuously commands you to serve in his armies. The Godslayer answers to no one! Archaon must be taught a lesson in humility.
    • Destroy or vassalise factions:
      • Warhost of the Apocalypse
    • The Red Tzar, Boris Ursus, stands against you. His faith in the false god Ursun is not a strength, but a weakness. One that you will easily exploit.
    • Destroy or vassalise factions:
      • Ursun Revivalists
    • Be'lakor... the betrayer. Through unknown means he has achieved physical form once more and now doubtless plots against you on the Isle of Albion. Banish him back to the shadows.
    • Destroy or vassalise factions:
      • Shadow Legion
    • Reward:
      • Everchosen: +20 diplomatic relations for Daemons of Chaos, Warriors of Chaos, Beastmen and Norsca.
        Reward flavour text: Rage and humiliation burning in his soul, Be'lakor places the Crown of Domination upon your brow and kneels before you, the true Everchosen.
        wh_dlc01_item_passive_the_crown_of_domination.png
  • Route III - Frozen Heart

    • "Ursun has forsaken you. He has forsaken Kislev! Give yourselves fully to the Dark Brothers. Only through their strength will we find salvation!"
    • Destroy factions:
      • Ice Court, Grand Orthodoxy
    • Conquer or raze the following settlements:
      • Erengrad, Praag, Kislev
    • Reward:
      • God of Kislev: +20% Weapon Strength, +20% Ward Save for the Godslayer
        Reward flavour text: Ursun is dead. The Daemon Prince finally has what Be'lakor's lying tongue once promised: the fathomless power of a God.
        kislev_motherland.png
      • Daemon Queen: Motherland ice effect on all your provinces 24/7. (Causes attrition to enemy armies within your territory, -10 Leadership for enemy armies within your territory.) (Would be cool if we could generate the blizzard effect on campaign map, same as Kislev, but I will have to run feasibility tests to see if this is even possible).
        Reward flavour text: My dearest Katarin, how I have longed for this day...

## Wulfrik the Wanderer - World Walkers

* **Route I - Ragnarok**
  * The End Times are nigh. Wulfrik has long cursed the gods for his predicament, but now realises he must pledge himself to one of them if he is to survive the coming apocalypse.
  * Attain level 3 allegiance with a Chaos God.
   * Defeat all of the Challengers sent against you.
  * **Reward**:
    * _Seafang Empowered_: Campaign movement range +30% (factionwide), enables teleportation for Wulfrik from port cities he owns (possible?)
_Reward flavour text:_ Seafang's figurehead quickly absorbed the blood of the slain challengers that were smeared upon it. The ship now glows with an eldritch power that has spread across Wulfrik's entire fleet, filling their sails with the Winds of Magic.
Faithful Vassal
Baleful monuments to your dark master poison the land and whip the Winds of Magic up into a hurricane gale, allowing hordes of daemons to manifest directly into the mortal realm.

* **Route II - The World Walker**
  * After a drunken boast made in sight of the Dark Gods, Wulfrik was cursed to forever wander the earth and seek out the fiercest challengers and most monstrous creatures and slay them in single combat.
  * Occupy at least 5 of the following settlements:
    * Couronne, Miragliano, Karaz-a-Karak, Altdorf, Castle Drakenhof, Black Crag, Kislev, Naggarond, Lothern, Hexoatl, Skavenblight, Khemri, The Awakening
  * **Reward**:
    * _The Eternal Challenger_: Enemy leadership -%10, enemy units near Wulfrik periodically Rampage (attacks the closest enemy and ignores any orders given).
_Reward flavour text:_ With his Gift of Tongues Wulfrik curses foes and goads them into recklessness. Whether he's besmirching a Dwarf's honour, questioning a Bretonnian's lineage or humiliating a haughty Elf - none can ignore his insults for long.

* **Route III - Where's My Palico?**
  * Wulfrik leads his World Walkers across the world in search of mighty beasts to slay. Though the rewards are great, so too are the risks.
  * Complete 6 Monster Hunts
  * The Norse adventurer Losteriksson was the first Norscan to land on the coast of Lustria and live to tell the tale. The settlement he founded still stands to this day, though it is under dire threat from the Lizardmen of the jungle.
  * Occupy Skeggi
  * **Reward**:
    * _Monster Hunter_: Primal Instincts (factionwide), Bonus vs Large +6 (factionwide)
_Reward flavour text:_ "We fought monsters. And we became them."
    * _Lustrian Tactics_: Enables poison attacks for Marauders, Marauder Spearmen, Marauders (Great Weapons), Marauder Berserkers, Marauder Champions and Marauder Champions (Great Weapons). [Do not apply to missile infantry as it will probably override their wyrmpiercer unique trit given to them by a Wulfrik skill.]
_Reward flavour text:_ The Norscans of Lustria have taught Wulfrik's warriors how to harvest and coat their blades in deadly poisons from the jungles.
