It doesn't seem to work with as I would expect with pinned tabs. They are treated as part of the current group and are all closed/reopened when switching between groups. I would prefer pinned tabs to be independent of the tab groups. Switching between groups shouldn't change or reload any of the pinned tabs.

I'm still with FF56 as I need the workflow w/ groups but following the great development here closely and will switch as soon as possible.

A maybe naive question: does "sync" mean "just" sync of the groups or sync across devices?

If STG would have the ability to sync groups across devices this would be absolutely mind-boggling and THE tool I am looking for for years now!!!

After installing this extension in my Firefox instance with hundreds of tabs opened in 10 different windows, CPU utilisation goes up for several minutes only to end in a Firefox crash.

I think the idea behind this extension is quite smart and I'd like to use it (#5 should be fixed ASAP as well) but this bug makes it unusable in my case.

first of all, I'm glad other developers are going to build a replacement for the old extension.
I'm still using FF56 with Quicksavers Tabgroubs addon.

Today I tried your addon in an virtualbox and I think this could work for me.
I'm not really happy with "loading" all tabs at once after I switch my group, but I already read that there will be a "fix" after FF58?

The other problem, that my tabs are gonna be unload after I switched to another group is no big deal for me. I tried more than two different windows of FF at the same time and this would work perfect for me... even tab switching to another group is possible with multiple windows. I'm happy with that.

But I have one question.
My old Tabgroups aren't small, is there any way to "import" my old session from Quicksavers addon into yours? If so, please tell me how. :)

And I'm still a bit worried that you not gonna continue this addon.
Are you using it for urself, too? I don't want to switch between other addons in the future.

If you have a tab with long text in a tab group the add-on gets pretty wide when you open this group. It would be nice if users could customize the max width. Or limit the width in aspect to the browser window. (1/3rd, 1/4th or something...)

I use the CDL feature of firefox to integrate with the gnome native look and feel with adwaita dark theme. Opening the sync-tab-groups menu display black text over dark background. Here is a sceenshot.

So this extension seems interesting as a tab-groups replacement now that it's gonna with firefox 57, but it's not usable as is for me.

1. Open a group menu.
2. Click a group to switch onto.

Currently the group menu stays open after switching a groups. Extra action is needed to close the menu. It would be actually useful to close the menu after picking a group to open. Or have an option to configure such behavior.

It's sometimes difficult to organize it again.

When I switch from one tab group to another and back again, data entered is lost.

Just an X on the end of the tab so it can be closed from an overview.

I'm very like your extension, thanks for you efforts!

After working with your extension, I have some request:
Could you make group open as new window?

This is my current work flow:

1. Open firefox, then it will open the last opened tabs, just says it as Group1
2. Currently, If I want to open Gropu2 which I previously saved with sync-tab-groups in a new window, I must open an empty window first, then
3. Select Group2 in the sync-tab-groups menu

If I can open group as a new window, work flow may simplify:

1. Open firefox
2. Just select Group2 in the sync-tab-groups menu, then it will open group in a new window

With that, I don't actually need hide tabs group function, I can jump between different groups by switching window. I believe that firefox 57 has much more better memory management, even if I open a lot tabs within mutiple window.

Finally, If I can close Group window by just selecting "close" in the sync-tab-groups menu, this whole work flow can finished just through the menu. For completeness, the menu should have two other buttons "close other groups except this group(window)" and "close all groups(windows)".

What is that? Where does it come from? How can I disable this feature?

It would be helpful to show the tab count inside a group when it is not opened.

can add an option let user chouse show/hide the search box.

most time I only have two group in used. so the tab in witch group I don't need the search to find out.

It would be helpful to remember the last state (open/closed) of all groups.

When I click on the add-on icon I can see all my tab groups.
Then I do open some groups by clicking the "arrow down" icon.
After I click on the tab groups add-on icon all previously opened tab groups are closed again.

I tried to import my current tab groups backup, but get no response of your add-on and the tabs don't show up anywhere.
When enabling the add-on debugger I can see an unhandled null exception:

Sometimes tab groups won't load in "Sync Tab Groups" menu for some long time.

Sort the groups per drag and drop.

I will first focus on some core functionalities and then add some UI possibilities.

Besides adding keyboard shortcuts like proposed on #8, keyboard navigation would be a handy addition.

My suggestion:

• Up and down arrows: move up and down the list of groups and tabs (if there's some expanded group)
• Space or right and left arrows: expand and collapse focused group
• Enter: activate focused group or tab

I had Simplified Tab Groups (TG) installed when I used Ff 56, I'm now on Quantum and thus in need of a replacement. STG seems like a good replacement, I like the fact that you based the UI on TG. If I install STG, will it detect and start to use the groups from TG? And will it remember the history of the tabs I have open? If so - will the history be retained even after switch between different groups?

Maybe this is contrary to your goals, but I'd love the ability to open the group in a new window without closing the current group. I have multiple workflows that I like to jump between quickly, would be better if I could just use this as a bookmark for all of them.

If Multiple Windows Exist and are labeled with Tab Group names, after restarting FF 57.0.2 browser, the windows are recreated, but the Tab Groups are no longer in sync with the Windows that firefox recreates that restore those tabs. In other words at least in my use case ( I don't understand all the tab group use case paradigms, so not sure if tab groups equate to specific windows ), my tab groups have a 1:1 relationship with open firefox Windows. When the windows are restored by FF after restarting, the Tab Groups still exist (they are still available for me to click on), however, when I do, sync tab groups creates a new window with all the tabs, not realizing that the same window with all the existing tabs already exists and was opened previously by FF. Basically, I am simply looking to have sync tab groups recognize / relabel the tab groups in the restored FF windows.

I think this is a feature request to simply have sync tab groups reattach it's defined tab groups to restored windows after a restart.

I used Sync Tab Groups only a short time but I like it very much.
Unfortunately this addon breaks my firefox installation. I use the default firefox from Ubuntu (57.0 at the moment). When I enable this addon, tabs freeze randomly after a short time of surfing in the net. The CPU load of firefox rises up to over 100% and the tab shows a "rotating circle" indicating some waiting. Later the tab is reported to be unresponsive and broken. If it starts with one tab, others will follow soon.
I have to shutdown firefox completely (which takes ages to complete) and restart to get usable again.

I do not have any clue what can trigger this, but it is happening quite regularly. Thus I need to keep the addon deactivated to keep firefox running. I have not seen any common reason for the breakdowns.

If you need further information/investigation, please tell me, what I can do.

Just a minor inconvenience: I have two groups, one with many (~20) tabs, both collapsed. When I expand it, a scroll bar appears on the side that pushes the entire pop-up window to the side, so to collapse the group again I have to move the mouse. Ideally the scoll bar would appear further on the right without the window moving.

The edit button should focus and select the group's name, just like "Rename" in file explorer does.

Additionaly, it would be nice if creating new group would automatically trigger a rename, as renaming the new group is probably the first thing most users do.

Only thing missing for me about this extension is that it isn't aware of Tree Style Tab's nesting levels. When restoring a tab group, all the tabs are flattened. Compatibility for it would be great - it's literally the only thing keeping me from migrating to Quantum.

The addon "Tab Session Manager" supports Tree Style Tab, but Sync Tab Groups is the better addon by far. If you need an idea of how to do this, this commit seems to the one that adds Tree Style Tab support - sienori/Tab-Session-Manager@fcb68d5 (but there may be more, I can't really tell).

There should be an option to display group names in alphabetical order. It doesn't look like there is any way to organize them. Also, why do the group names have a number in parenthesis after the name, like (1) or (2)?

Hi, I accidentally deleted a whole group because I accidentally pressed the delete icon.
Then, a "undo" icon appeared in the very same spot.

I clicked it, but it suddenly became another recycle bin. So I totally lost the group.

Closed and reopened Firefox, hoping it wouldn't autosave, but probably I messed it up even more.

I could barely see the rollback icon.

As per title, having the tabs stored/retrieved/synched by one of the many cloud services (the easiest service of your choice to start) would be a great addition.

on my computer the order of tabs changes when switching from one group to the other and back. I am not fully sure about the pattern, but it seems to me that the leftmost tab goes all the way to the right, and all other tabs move one to the left after switching to a different group and back. Using FF57, Win 10 64 bit.

Please tell me if you need further information to debug this issue.

P.S. Thank you for the great add-on!

Title says it all, but to clarify; i would like an option to set a default export directory, and a button to export all groups to session data from the firefox user interface. importing sessions from other add-on's would be a super plus but not at all necessary.

Is there a possibility to make each window have its own groups?

If the "save groups in bookmarks automatically" option is enabled (which is default):

• bookmarks are additionally created outside of SyncTabGroupsFolder
• bookmarks are duplicated, not overwritten (I think each time the tab is activated and the 30s are over)
  ** this way for some pages I got 80 or 100 times the same bookmark
• turning off "save groups in bookmarks automatically" solves the issue
  This seriously "spams" bookmarks, as it bookmarks every single page visited in main bookmarks folder.
  Until solved, I would propose tu set the default to disabled (maybe even after it is solved).

Observed in Firefox 57.0 under Windows 10 (Version 10.0.15063 Build 15063)

Now empty private browsing groups are auto destroyed.

What about auto destroying all empty groups (probably as an option)?

When using this addon together with Tile Tabs WE, the number of empty groups can grow quite quickly.

Scenario: I have two tab groups, A and B. I am currently on tab group B, with one tab pointing to google.com and the other pointing to a local file, E:\test\test.html. I switch to tab group A, and then back to B, and now B only has one tab pointing to google.com.

Every time I switch groups, all tabs for local files are removed from the tab group.

If you open a new private window, a new tab group is automatically generated (as desired). If you close this private window, the group persists. I would expect that group to get deleted automatically, as (according to Firefox) only bookmarks and downloads should persist. If this is the desired behavior, I would like to at least have the option to automatically delete tab groups from private windows.

I had created some tab groups for a few days everything worked perfectly.
Today the saved groups have all disappeared !!! and I can not even create others !!

This extension in which folder saves the tab groups?

Thanks for your addon. Since FF 57, I was desperate to find a replacement for tab groups.

I'd like to synchronise my tabs/groups between two machines. One is at work, the other at home.
I noticed there is a file called storage.js in

~/.mozilla/firefox/6vjpuub7.default/browser-extension-data/[email protected]

If I keep this file syncrhonised between my two computers, would it be enough ? Could there be any conflict ?

My browser froze so rebooted, then STG created "Unnamed group 8." It should have returned to the same group that was active previous to browser freeze.

when I switch between groups, pinned tabs just disappear. This might be caused by the fact that I just imported groups (from Tab Groups file) and the pinned tabs were just in one group.

But besides the pinned tabs, "normal" tabs are also getting lost when switching between groups. Sometimes only a few, sometimes all of them. The tabs itself do not disappear but the content - the tabs are just shown as empty tab ("new tab").

There is also a bit weird behavior of new unknown groups being generated with a - what seems like - dublicate of (the last opened?) group.

I also lost all groups/tabs after a restart of Firefox...

I wish I could be more precise and will post if I find some pattern.

Running latest Win10.

Thanks for this fantastic add-on. I am facing one issue with the feature, "Save groups in bookmarks automatically". The add-on is creating duplicate session folder every time, rather than using the existing session folder.

Hi, whenever I enable the extension my firefox is basically unusable. I'm getting black artifacts and if I continue using it ultimately crashes

It would be interesting to display the number of tabs contained in the group near the group name (as did former Tab Groups plugin).
eg. (case I have 5 tabs in group 1 and 12 in group 2):
My goup 1 (5)
My group 2 (12)

Not much else to say. Whenever I switch from one group to another, I am pretty certain, that the order is not kept the way I left it.
If you need more info, please let me know.

One thing I just found: if the second tab (from the left) was selected, then group changed and back, then the previously second tab becomes the first tab.

In v0.3, the group name is displayed in the window title. While it is a sensible addition, it breaks the window recognition of some password managers (eg. KeePassXC window associations).

A way to fix this would be to add an option to hide the group name in the window title.
